In the last 5 minutes of the first half Academy had two
further chances to increase their lead. Davie Allan had a swerving shot from
the edge of the box that flashed just wide of the right hand post. Sam Mackay
then broke through the Vale defence getting on the end of a long diagonal ball
from Richard Macadie. He went one-on-one with the keeper but was heavy with his
touch in trying to go around him and he knocked the ball out of play.
Half Time – Deveronvale 1 – Wick Academy 2
It took 33 minutes of second-half play before the first
chance was created. Liam Forbes had a powerful shot that went just passed the
outside of the post.
On 83 minutes Davie Allan played in Steven Anderson
one-on-one with keeper Pennet. Instead of taking on the shot himself Anderson
squared across the face of goal for substitute Marc MacGregor but he was on the
stretch and knocked it wide of target having failed to make good contact on the
ball.
On 86 Vale took a throw in on the left taken by substitute
Ross Aitken. James Duguid took it on the edge of the Academy box and he turned
and shot but smoked it over the cross-bar.
With a minute of injury time played Vale pushed hard looking
for the equalizer. Kevin Souter picked the ball up 35 yards from goal and he
had a pop but it flew straight to McCarthy.
In the last action of the game Vale won a free kick out on
the left. Souter delivered it into the box for Chris Blackhall but he flicked
his attempt over the crossbar.
