Academy got back to winning ways today with a great 4-1 win
over Turriff United. The visitors came north without the services of Gary
McGowan, Andy MacAskill, Jamie Beagrie, Mike McKenzie and Darren Mackie, whilst
Academy had Craig Shearer and David Allan missing from the ranks.
Three first half goals in the space of six minutes really
killed the game off. James Pickles started the ball rolling with a bullet
header in the 23rd minute. Sam Mackay doubled the advantage 3 minutes
later, and Gary Weir then headed home to out the Scorries in at half-time with
a three goal cushion.
In the second half James More made a great save to turn a Christopher
Herd shot over the bar, and a 35 yarder from Lewis Davidson rattled off the
Academy cross-bar. Weir however stuck his second of the game into an empty net
from a tight angle having gone around keeper Kieran McCaffrey. Turriff did pull
a consolation back from substitute Aaron Shand 15 minutes before full-time and
although the visitors kept plugging away to the end they couldn't add to their
tally.
