Academy were on top for the next quarter of
an hour but apart fom a tame effort from Stevie Cunningham, a Gary Weir solo
effort and a Macadie shot from a tight angle on the right which was deflected
for a corner, most passes in the final third were mopped up by a vigilant home
defence.
On the half hour Sam Mackay lofted a
diagonal pass from the left touch line ahead of Allan who jogged in to
nonchalantly notch his second goal with a right foot shot from just onside the box.
The Scorrie fans' old favourite refrain
‘Black and White Dynamite' echoed round the park as Walters was kept busy by a
Weir shot and a Mackay free kick.
Coldstream left winger Jonathan Simpson
ghosted into the heart of the Wick defence but couldn't find a way past Alan
Farquhar and Alex Lamb.
Just before the break a fluent passing move
from Mackay to Macadie to Cunningham ended with Walters dashing from his line
to snatch the ball away from Macadie's feet.
Half Time – Coldstream 0 – Wick Academy 2
Steven and Allan, from close range and
Mackay from 30 yards, had efforts blocked early in the second half before
Coldstream upped their performance to enjoy their best spell of the game.
John Crawford had a header saved at point
blank range by Gray and the big striker was throwing his weight about as
Simpson tried to set up chances after forceful runs on the left.
Academy took play forward again and from
Mackay's long low cross from the left Pickles fired into side net.
The vital third goal came in the 59th
minute. Macadie stroked the ball up the right to Allan whose pin point accurate
cross found Weir who swept the ball into the net from the 6 yard line.
Weir almost had another but his header was
blocked on the line and scrambled away. However Mackay soon fired in the fourth
goal, with a left foot shot between two defenders and into the keepers left hand corner from 30 yards.
Craig Shearer came off the bench to keep
his record of having played in all of Academy's Scottish Cup games since the
all in national format was introduce six years ago. He was almost immediately
involved in the game's one ugly incident when he misjudged a sliding tackle and
sent Josh Hebdon crashing to the turf. Hebdon grabbed Shearer by the throat and
the pair were then pulled apart by half a dozen Coldstream players as Grade One
referee Craig Ross raced across to restore order. Both number 6s were shown the
yellow card but as Jake Birkett prepared to take the free kick Mr Ross
consulted his assistant and changed Hebdon's yellow to a red.
The ten man home side still tried to
compete and Gray saved a shot and a header from Crawford.
Shearer was in the spotlight again in the
80th minute when his deflected 20 yard drive ended up in the back of
the net.
Gray was in action again diving left to
save a Greg McCrudden free kick before the action moved to the other end where
a curling left foot effort from Ross Allan hit the post.
The unlucky Crawford was foiled again when
his header was brilliantly saved by Gray.
and Davie Allan were pushed away for corners. Ross Allan's excellent delivery
from the second flag kick was forced in at the back post by Shearer and in
stoppage time, from another Ross Allan corner high to the back post Steven's
header was kicked off the line.
