Cove hit the top of the table with 3 – 1 win over a battling
Academy side. A well taken header by Grant Fraser with a minute of the first
half left put the home side in with their noses in front.
Half Time 0 – 1
Academy looked as if they had squared the game 5 minutes
after the re-start when Martin Gunn saw his shot come back off the inside of
the Cove post. A 20 yard wonder-strike by Phil Reid with 56 minutes played
looked as if it would seal the points, but Wick never gave up and got their
reward in the 70th minute when Gary Weir scored his 9th league
goal of the season to give the Scorries a fighting chance.
Unfortunately a glory come-back was not to be and Cove
wrapped the game up with 10 minutes to go when Robbie Henderson fired home.
Full Time 3 – 1
By all account Academy gave Cove a real tough game so much
encouragement for the visit by Fraserburgh next weekend.
