In the 20th
minute a Rothes corner went ping-pong in the Academy box but Alan Farquhar
cleared it up the park to James Pickles. He slid the ball to Macadie and
Pickles took a late tackle. Macadie slotted the ball home but was flagged
off-side and referee Andy Milne pulled the play back for the foul on Pickles.
Macadie took the free kick and smacked it off the Rothes wall. Sam Mackay
picked up the loose ball and weaved his way through 4 or 5 tackles before
setting up Macadie and with the goal at his mercy Michael Dunn made a great
defensive tackle nicking the ball off Macadie's toes just as he was about to
pull the trigger.

Academy increased their lead in their next attack. The ball was chipped over
the top of the Rothes back-line by Shaun Sinclair, who fed Guruzel who in turn played it wide for Davie Allan who tore into the box before
providing a perfect crossed ball for Macadie who ran in and stabbed home from 3
yards out.

Stuart Massey was the next Rothes player to give the ball up easily in his
own half leaving Sam Mackay a free run into the box. He crossed to Macadie who
went through on goal but tugged his shot just wide of the target.

Davie Allan was terrorizing the Rothes defense and made another lung
bursting run up the right flank before breaking into the Rothes box and
crossing to Geruzel. The ball bounced off Geruzel and back to Allan who again
teed up Geruzel who made a half yard in the middle of the box but fired his
shot straight at keeper Sim who made a good safe save.

7 minutes into the second half the game was all but over. Richard Macadie
burst through onto a high ball and went one-on-one with keeper Greg Sim.
Macadie knocked the ball past the keeper who grabbed Macadie around the leg and
brought him down. Referee Milne had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and
then issued Sim with his marching orders flashing him a straight red card for
denying a goal scoring opportunity. Substitute keeper Rhys Fyfe came on for
Greg Simpson. Geruzel claimed the ball and took the spot kick. He sent the sub
keeper Fyfe to his left and slotted the ball into the opposite corner.

Academy could have made it more minutes later. Academy won a corner that was
taken short by Macadie to Davie Allan who chipped it to the back post where
Farquhar ran in but got under the ball and smoked it over the cross-bar from 6
yards out.

The goal of the game came from Macadie in the 72nd minute. Rothes
failed to clear a crossed ball and it fell to the feet of Macadie about 25
yards from goal and he lashed a thunder-bold strike that keeper Fyfe got a hand
to but he could only tip it off the under-side of the bar and it fell and
bounced over the line.

The substitute keeper was being forced to work for his wages and he made a
great double save, first a good block from an Alan Farquhar shot and then
another when substitute Gary Weir fired in the re-bound from point-blank range.

Academy were awarded their second penalty of the game 6 minutes from
full-time when Gary Weir flashed a drive across the face of goal and Grant
Steven was adjudged by referee Milne to have been pushed when trying to reach
the ball. Macadie took the spot-kick and notched up his hat-trick as he sent it
to the left side of keeper Fyfe who got a hand on the ball but couldn't keep it
out.

5 – 0

Academy fashioned another good chance with a great flowing move in the last
minute of the game when Weir played the ball to Mackay who skipped past several
tackles and into the box. Davie Allan burst through the middle and was
available for the pass from Mackay, but Mackay went on his own and dinked it
over the keeper but wide of target.

In the final attack Davie Allan tore past his marker and into the box and
from a tight angle shot across the keeper. The ball smacked off the base of the
post and back into keeper Fyfe's arms.
