It is derby day and Academy visit Brora Rangers for the
first of our back-to-back matches. Barry Wilson has a full squad available to
him going into the game. Brora have two new signings in their starting line-up;
Russell Duncan and Ally MacDonald.
It's a horrible day of very strong wind and rain showers at
Dudgeon Park and the game has just kicked off.
6 minutes played and as yet neither side have really
threatened goal. Davie Allan has already been on the end of a couple of tough tackles
with Stuart Golabek booked for one of them.
10 minutes in and Brora have the first chance. Ritchie Hart
fired a low driving cross across goal and Martin McLean got on the end of it at
the far post. Michael Gray got down well and made the save, clutching onto the ball at
the second time of asking.
21 minutes played and Brora create another chance. Michael
Steven lost the ball to Steven Mackay in the right. Mackay played the ball to
Ally MacDonald and he fired a shot on target from 25 yards out that Gray got
down and got a hand to palming the ball for a corner.
Just on the half hour Brora have another chance to open the
scoring. The ball is worked wide to Hart who cut inside and he smacked a left
foot shot from 35 yards that hit off the cross-bar and went behind for a
goal-kick. Brora have the wind on their
back in this half and are using it to good effect.
5 minutes from half time Steven Mackay played a give and go
with Craig Campbell on the edge of the Academy box and Mackay's shot took a
deflection and went over the cross-bar for a corner.
39 minutes and Brora take the lead. Dale Gillespie played
Ally MacDonald into the Academy box one-on-one with Gray and from 9 yards out
MacDonald lifted the ball over the advancing Gray and into the net.
1 – 0
2 minutes later referee Fraser spotted something in the
Brora box. Alex Lamb is booked as he looked to have pulled back Davie Allan and Academy are awarded a penalty. Richard
Macadie took the spot-kick and sent keeper Ridgers the wring way but his
attempt hit the post before Ridgers got back to his feet and cleared the ball
down-field.
Half Time – Brora Rangers 1 – Wick Academy 0
The referee has abandoned the match at the beginning of the second half due to high wind and driving rain.
