Wick Academy under-19 manager Alan Farquhar and his mother, Academy committee member Georgia Farquhar, handing over two footballs signed by the players of St Mirren and Celtic to Janice Henderson (centre) to help with fundraising for the Liam Henderson Memorial Fund.
The balls were signed prior to the SPL match at Love Street which was attended by the Academy U19 squad after their SFA Youth Cup tie against St Mirren U19’s on the 12th Nov. As reported in last week’s Courier, the Wick youngsters put up a brave fight in the third-round encounter at St Anthony’s JFC, Cardonald, but lost 8-0 to a talented St Mirren side who are among the leading teams in the SPL Youth League and who have no fewer than five Scottish U19 international squad players in their ranks. Despite the result, manager Farquhar said it had given the Wick team valuable experience against quality opposition. The handover of the signed footballs took place in the Academy boardroom.
