With 5 minutes of the second half played Academy level the
scores. Sam Mackay worked his way to the edge of the box and fired the ball across
goal and it took a wicked deflection off Graeme Grant and flew into the net for
an own-goal.
1 – 1
An excellent piece of play almost resulted in an Academy
goal. Sam Mackay broke up the left flank skinning defender Graeme Fraser before
flashing the ball across goal. Keeper Stuart Knight came for the ball but didn't
manage to collect it and it fell for Weir but the ball git trapped under his
feet and trickled along the goal-line before Forres cleared the danger.
Things are starting to hot up and Sam Mackay and Martin
McMullan are both booked after a coming together.
68 minutes played and Barry Wilson makes a change with
Lukasz Geruzel coming on for Gary Weir.
Graeme Grant is next in the referee's book as he takes down Sam
Mackay.
The home side again take the lead in the 72nd
minute. From a throw-in Craig McGovern broke up-field got around Michael Steven
and crossed for Kevin Duguid to side foot home his second of the game.
2 – 1
Forres have improved as the game has gone on and put the
game to bed with 2 minutes left on the clock. A corner is swung into the box
and defender Graeme Fraser rose at the back post and powered home a good
header.
3 – 1
Scott Moore comes on for Craig McGovern and within a minute
of being on the park he scores the home sides 4th. The ball broke in mid-field for Kyle Scott
who past it forward to Duguid up the right flank. He crossed the ball and it
was deflected into the path of Moore and he tucked it home.
4 – 1
Full Time – Forres Mechanics 4 – WAFC 1
Despite the defeat Academy still lead the table. It's all
getting very close at the top of the table though and with Formartine beating
Keith today 4-1 they are now hot on our heels. We have Formartine at home at Harmsworth
Park next weekend so that will be yet another tussle for top spot.
