Wick Academy bolstered their squad tonight by signing Sam Mackay and Alan Farquhar.
20 year old Sam is a former Scotland schoolboy international, and had 5 seasons with Brora at Dudegon Park before signing with Deveronvale last season. Academy started negotiations with Deveronvale last weekend, and concluded the transfer deal tonight at the Harmsworth Park.
Sam holds the unique distinction amongst the current crop of SHFL players of having scored for Scotland both at Schoolboy and Semi Professional level. During his spell at Brora he played over 100 matches and became one of a select few who have been handed a captains armband whilst in their teens. During his time at Deveronvale the player quickly made his mark scoring in a series of influential games, fast becoming a Vale fans favourite.
Wick Academy Secretary Alan Farquhar said: “This is our second attempt at signing Sam and we as a club are delighted and excited that we have finally managed to get his much sought after signature. He’s one of the hottest young properties in the league, was the Sunday Post Young Player of the year last season, and is a player who will add further quality to our already talented squad. The signing of Sam shows that the club are 100% behind our management team, and this will hopefully assist them in pursuing their goals and ambitions. We also hope that this will give our supporters something to cheer about, as their support has been fantastic.”
Wick co-manager Ian Munro said “Sam is a terrific signing for us and we look forward to the prospect of seeing him playing in the black and white. He has an abundance of talent and can play in mid-field or up front, and he’ll give us some great options. Adding Sam to our other home grown talent gives us the core of a very exciting side for years to come.”
Academy also secured the services of Alan Farquhar. Alan is a very talented and exciting utility mid-field player who played summer football with Castletown in the Caithness County League and winter football with Halkirk United in the North Caledonian League.
