Two goals just before half-time was enough to give Huntly
all 3 points at Christie Park today. Academy made a real game of it when
Richard Macadie pulled one back in the second half, but Huntly managed to hold
on.
Academy had several great chances to take the lead in the first
half. Gary Farquhar hit the post from a free-kick and Bryan McKiddie fired the
re-bound over the top of the cross-bar. Both Gary Farquhar and Gary Weir had
further good chances, and McKiddie also had another attempt saved by the Huntly
keeper Tony Buckley.
It was Huntly however that opened the scoring in the 42nd
minute when Russell Guild managed to control a ball punted over the top of the
Academy defence, and he slotted the ball under Don MacMillan.
Two minutes later they doubled their lead, this time Craig
Dorrat converted a Bruce Cormie crossed-ball.
Half Time 0 – 2
Academy came right back into the game in the 66th
minute when Richard Macadie scored from a Craig Sheerer cross.
Academy almost levelled the scores with 10 minutes of the
game left when a Gary Weir shot took a slight deflection and it hit the
cross-bar.
Despite a spirited come-back Academy were unable to find
another goal and Huntly ran out winners.
Final score 2 – 1
