Academy recorded their first league win of the season today, beating Clachnacuddin 2-1. Both of Academy’s goals were scored by Craig Gunn taking his total for the season to 4 goals in 5 appearances.
The Scorries secured the signings of Jonah Martens and Kuba Koziol prior to the game, with Martens making the starting eleven. Jack Halliday returned from injury and he also started the game.
Academy started well and created a great chance after only 4 minutes. Manson and Hughes played a neat one-two allowing Manson to get a shot on target that was parried away by keeper Douglas MacLennan.
The opening goal came in the 8th minute. Gary Manson delivered a cross from the right which was headed home by Craig Gunn.
Martins did well cutting in from the right and keeper MacLennan tipped his 25 yard attempt behind for a corner.
Gunn grabbed his second on 31 minutes capitalising on a slip from Colin Macrae to snap up the ball and fire in with a low drive.
Half Time – Clachnacuddin 0 – Wick Academy 2
On the hour Richard Macadie teed up Jack Halliday 25 yards from goal and keeper MacLennan again did well to tip his effort over the bar.
James Beeston came on for Eachainn Miller in the 75 minute, and the substitute made an immediate impact scoring a minute later with a cracker of a strike from 25 yards to pull a goal back from the home team.
Despite the late goal from Clach Academy held on to clock up a very welcome win.
