The Legends played some neat stuff and won a few corners
which they couldn't capitalise on, the last of which was cleared and Academy
broke up-field. Weir almost capped the day with a screamer. He smacked a
diagonal ball from Richard Macadie on the volley which looked goal-bound but
Gray rolled back the years with a great stop.
Davie Allan managed to find grass in front of him as Academy
broke from a spell of Legends pressure but Gray came to meet him and smothered
his attempt.
Academy won a free-kick which was taken by Weir and he came
close to increasing the score-line but his attempt smashed off Gray's right
hand post.
A minute before the break the Legends got themselves on the
score-sheet thanks to a well taken goal from Barry Wilson. He played a neat
one-two with John Robertson before running into the box for Robertson's return
pass. James More came out to try to shut him down but Wilson dinked it over him
and into the net from a fairly tight angle.

Half Time – Chuckie's Select 2 – Legends 1
After the break James More and Michael Gray swapped sides.
A minute into the second half and Academy missed a great
chance to increase their lead. Weir executed his trade-mark double-step-over
out on the bye-line before crossing into the box but substitute Andy Falconer
blazed over the top.
Weir had another good attempt on goal. From about 20 yards
out he sent in a dipping shot which went over the head of More and smacked off
the crossbar.
More was kept busy as he saved an Andy Falconer shot and then collected
again when Weir tried to chip over his head.
The Legends pulled level on 65 minutes. Chris Taylor bundled
over John Robertson in the box and Barry Wilson stroked home his second goal of
the game from the penalty spot.
2 – 2
The Legend's winner came in the 71st minute.
Blair Lawrie picked up a an inch-perfect diagonal ball and ran into the box, cutting inside Gary
Davidson before drilling a right foot shot under the body of Michael Gray.
2 – 3
Neither side could find the net again and the referee blew
for full time.
Full Time – Chuckie's Select 2 – Legends 3
So the Legends took the spoils but the day was not about the
score-line, it was all about supporting an Academy stalwart who has racked up
417 competitive appearances for the Scorries, scoring 164 goals in the process.
Let's hope there are plenty more to come, very well deserved testimonial Chuckie.
