the holders, Brora Rangers, out of the North Cup winning a penalty shoot out
4-2 after an enthralling 1-1 draw in normal time at Dudgeon Park. Michael
Steven kept his nerve to net the decisive spot kick after keeper Sean McCarthy
had saved two of Brora's efforts. In the game itself Brora took the lead on 25
minutes when Steven Mackay jumped highest in the box to head in a corner from
his new ‘boss' Richard Brittain. Both teams created good chances before Davie
Allan out-paced the home defence to fire the equaliser past Joe Malin from 15
yards. Wick will now travel to Inverness to meet Clachnacuddin at Grant Street
in the quarter final.
Halkirk United
won the other north section tie in similar fashion away to Orkney. Michael
Bremner put the Anglers ahead after 25 minutes with a powerful volley from the
edge of the box, only for the Islanders' Thorfinn Stout to level the scores
with a solo effort five minutes before the break. After a goal-less second half
Halkirk won the shoot out 4-2, keeper Neal Clark saving 2 Orkney penalties. The
Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Halkirk United tie will be staged at Halkirk's
Morrison Park as the ICT first team is due to play Partick Thistle in the SPL
at home,
In the South Section Rothes beat Fort William 3-2
while Forres Mechanics won 4-2 at Lossiemouth.
