Clach had a crack from a free kick by Gordon Morrison about 25 yards from the Academy goal but his attempt went high over the cross bar and the Scorries took a one goal lead into the half time interval.
Half Time – Clachnacuddin 0 – Wick Academy 1
The home side started the second half well and came close after just a minute. A high ball was punted into the Academy box and was taken down well by David Watson. He laid it back to the edge of the box for Blair Lawrie who got his shot off but Michael Steven got a block on it deflecting it for a corner.
Ten minutes into the second half and Gordon Connelly made a change with Steven Anderson being replaced by Richard Macadie.
In Macadie’s first real involvement he picked the ball up in the middle of the park and drove towards the Clach goal. He slid it to Davie Allan who lobbed it up before passing back to Macadie who had a shot on target that was saved by Ali Ridgers.
It didn’t take long however for the Scorries to double their advantage. A corner on the left was swung in by Sam Mackay for Grant Steven to bullet home a header at the near post.
0 – 2
On 74 minutes Clach had a good chance to pull a goal back. Great link-up play between substitute Daniel Maclennan and Martin Callum saw Callum have a left foot shot from 22 yards that went just over the bar.
Five minutes later substitute Ian Penwright had the ball in the back of the net for the home side but referee Douglas Ross chalked it off as he deemed Sean McCarthy to have bene fouled in the process.
Gary Weir came on for Geruzel with 11 minutes left on the clock.
With 5 minutes left to play Ross Grant had a first time volley from the edge of the Academy box that looked bound for the bottom left hand corner but Sean McCarthy got down well to pull off a great save tipping the ball round the post for a corner.
In the dying minutes Weir had a fantastic chance to put the game well and truly to bed. Mccarthy threw the ball out and found Macadie on the right. He slid a defence splitting pass to the feet of Weir who went one-on-one with keeper Ridgers. The Academy front-man tried to lob Ridgers but didn’t put enough on it and Ridgers made an easy catch.
Weir was again fed in on goal with a great pass from Macadie. Weir got round the keeper and shaped to shoot but a last ditch block by a Clach defender turned the ball for a corner.
