An otherwise run of the mill, end of season
encounter produced a memorable couple of minutes of stoppage time action.
There was a first minute scare for Wick when
Rothes striker Liam Forbes fired low to keeper Michael Gray's right and the
ball almost squirmed over the line.
Wick took charge and after a few close calls
went into the lead after 28 minutes. Keeper Craig Ferguson denied Richard
Macadie with a fine one handed save but Gary Weir swept the rebound into the
unguarded net.
0 – 1
Ten minutes later Davie Allan sprinted after a
through ball and steered it low past Ferguson
to double the home side's advantage.
0 – 2
Moments before the break Rothes pulled back a
goal when after a goal line scramble the ball was deflected into his own net by
the unfortunate Wick defender Michael Steven.
1 – 2
Half time – Wick Academy 1 – Rothes 2
Neither keeper was seriously troubled during the
second half until Rothes substitute Jack Presly fired a 30 yard drive high into
the Wick net in the first minute of added time.
2 – 2
The visitors' joy at their equaliser was
short-lived as Wick swarmed upfield to win a corner and a glancing header from
Alan Farquhar snatched a dramatic win.
3 – 2
Full time – Wick Academy 3 – Rothes 2
