In the last action of the first half Shaun Sinclair took a
throw-in on the right inside the Turriff half. The ball was played forward and
chipped into the box by Gary Weir onto the head of Richard Macadie 5 yards from
goal, but he didn't get any power on the header and it was easily saved by
keeper Coutts.
Academy had some great first half-chances but failed to
capitalise on any of them so the teams went in for the half time break at zero each.
Half Time – Turriff United 0 – Wick Academy 0
Just past the hour Academy conceded their first league goal
of the season. A cross from the right was chipped into the box to the 18 yard line.
Gary Harris picked it up, found a yard and drove a right foot shot across goal
which More managed to get a hand to, but he couldn't keep it out.
1 – 0
Academy make a change to see if they can get on the
score-sheet with Lukasz Geruzel coming on for Richard Macadie, and 2 minutes
after that Ross Allan also came on for Gary Manson.
Turriff were having the better of the second half but Academy levelled the scores 5 minutes from full-time. Academy
won a free kick which Sam Mackay took. The ball flew into the bottom corner of
the net and Geruzel wheeled away with his arm in the air to claim the goal, as it looked as if he got the last touch.
1 – 1
3 minutes later Sam Mackay
scored the winner. He was allowed to run with ball at feet towards the Turriff
box and from 20 yards he smoked a screamer into the top corner of the net to
send the Academy support wild!
1 – 2
There was no time for a response from the home team and
Academy sealed the win.
Full Time – Turriff United 1 – Wick Academy 2
The result today means that following on from the run of league
wins at the end of last season, Academy have now matched their 10 league game
winning streak. That was last achieved in season 2008 9. We remain on top of
the table on goal difference from Formartine United, Brora and Inverurie Locos who
also all won their games today.
