Pre-Season Friendly – Wick Academy 2 – Ross County XI 1

Saturday 20th July 2013

County Show Day and roasting hot but 160 fans were at HP to see Academy make good use of another warm up match against a skilful and well organised Ross County youth squad.

Early pressure was rewarded when a Gary Weir through ball was deflected ahead of Sam Mackay who ran into the box to steer the ball low into the corner of the net after 19 minutes.

County responded and enjoyed a good 20 minute spell of dominance. Tony Dingwall headed wide and Kyle Macleod saw a 20 yard drive saved. With 25 minutes played, Dingwall ran up the right at the Wick defence before slipping the ball inside to Mikey Grimes who from 25 yards lashed it high into the net for the equaliser.

Half time – 1 – 1

Wick brought on 4 substitutes at the start of the second half and within 10 minutes forced three corners, a Weir shot hit the post and Davie Allan's ‘goal' from the rebound was disallowed for offside.

Dingwall threatened again for the visitors, firing a shot past the advancing James More only for Grant Steven to make a goal line clearance. Allan was foiled again by a fine diving save from County keeper Sean McCarthy.

A double substitution by Wick after 70 minutes was rewarded within a minute when the two subs combined for the winning goal. Bryan McKiddie's through ball was stroked into the net by Wick's triallist striker James Murray.

After 80 minutes Richard Macadie fired a 22 yard free kick against the County defensive wall and hooked the rebound just wide.
