Pre-Season Friendly – Wick Academy 1 – Livingston 2
Thursday 18th July 2013
A first-half double from Jack Beaumont proved too much for the Scorries to overcome as they lost their first pre-season match at Harmsworth Park to an impressive performance from the first division outfit.
Dressed in their Barcelona coloured away strip, Livingston played attractive passing football in the style of Catalan giants as Academy struggled to keep up in sweltering conditions.
The visitors took the lead after nine minutes when James Pickles fouled Kyle Wilkie and, after a tap free kick, Beaumont scored from 20 yards with a thunderbolt giving James More no chance.
The goalkeeper failed to keep out another spectacular free kick in the 23rd minute when, 30 yards from goal, Beaumont curled a sweet shot around the defensive wall and into the top right-hand corner.
Despite being penned back for most of the first half, Academy did pull one back 10 minutes before half-time when Gary Weir scored his own spectacular effort, striking from 25 yards into the top left-hand corner.
Half time – 1 – 2
With a host of substitutions in the second half, the game fizzled out as a contest but Academy could have nicked an equaliser six minutes before the end when Livi keeper Kevin Walker failed to deal with a Sam Mackay cross into the box and dropped it at the feet of Alan Hughes. But he managed to smother the ball before the striker could get a proper shot on target.
