Paterson's men go joint top with victory over Lossie
Formartine United got their Highland League title
challenge back on track with a 3-1 victory over Lossiemouth at North Lodge
Park.
Steve Paterson's side had slipped up in midweek, losing
2-1 at Turriff. However, with Cove Rangers having a Saturday off, Formartine
went into the Lossie match knowing that a win would put them joint top with two
games in hand.
They duly picked up all three points and the Pitmedden
outfit now lead the table on the basis of goals scored, as they have an
identical goal difference to Cove.
Mark Smith headed in the opener on 27 minutes. Matty
Davidson got Lossie back on level terms four minutes into the second half, but
Mike Ewen restored Formartine's lead a minute later and Calum Dingwall made
sure of the victory in the 72nd minute.
Clach had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Keith and
so the Lilywhites remain in fourth place, one point behind Wick Academy having
played the same number of games.
Cammy Keith fired the Maroons in front midway through the
first period but Michael Finnis grabbed the equaliser just after the half-hour
mark.
Forres Mechanics were 4-2 winners over Strathspey Thistle
in Grantown.
Goals by Scott Lawrie and Ross Archibald either side of
the half-hour mark gave the visitors a two-goal cushion at the break. Lee
Fraser extended the lead just before the hour and the Can-Cans looked to be
cruising.
But Mateusz Bobrowski pulled one back with 15 minutes
remaining, and five minutes later the Jags struck again through James McShane.
Lawrie then had a penalty saved by Strathspey keeper
Cammy Dudgeon but Forres were awarded a second spot-kick in the last minute.
This time Dudgeon kept out Lawrie's initial effort only for the forward to
score from the rebound.
An 88th-minute penalty from Neil Gauld was enough to give
Inverurie Locos a 1-0 win against Turriff United at Harlaw Park. There was
controversy immediately after the final whistle as Turriff's Darren McAllister
was shown a second yellow card.
Fraserburgh's Willie West hit a hat-trick in an emphatic
7-0 victory over Fort William at Claggan Park. Two of West's goals came from
the penalty spot, with Scott Barbour, Zak Conway, Mark Cowie and Scott Fowlie
also getting on the scoresheet.
Academy's scheduled home fixture against Nairn County was
postponed following the tragic death of Alfie Mackintosh, the eight-month-old
son of Nairn midfielder Wayne Mackintosh and his partner Lauren. The clubs
agreed on Friday to call off the match as a mark of respect and it has been
rearranged for Wednesday, May 8 (kick-off 8pm).
