Academy had a great spell of
pressure just before the break when they forced three corners on the spin but
they couldn't increase their lead despite a Geruzel attempt coming off the top of the cross-bar
before being cleared off the line by Scott Begg, and the sides went in at half-time at zero
each.

Barry Wilson made a telling
change for the start of the second half as Gary Weir came on for Geruzel and
Weir turned hero as he picked up a through-ball from Stevie Cunningham and with
Andy Reid off his line Weir executed a perfect chip from about 20 yards out over
Reid's head and into the net.

Four minutes later Academy
should have doubled their lead. Richard Macadie, Davie Allan and Gary Weir had
a good interchange of passes which set Allan free in the box and with the goal
at his mercy 8 yards out he tugged his shot wide of target.
Locos then had a spell of about
20 minutes when they dominated possession but couldn't make it tell. Indeed it
was Academy who had another good chance when Macadie latched onto the end of a
high ball and ran in on target. He dinked the ball to Stevie Cunningham who got
to the ball in front of Weir, and Cunningham took the shot on but smacked it
straight into the welcoming arms of keeper Reid.
Academy ran the ball to the
corners as the game petered out and managed to grind out the win for a great
three points.

Today's win was Academy's 6th
on the spin, with 5 clean sheets to boot. A heavy pitch which cut up really badly didn't make for a silky passing game, but Academy battled out the win and we are still top of the table with a
5 point advantage over Cove Rangers, but Formartine, Nairn and Clach, all with
games in hand, also recorded wins today. Academy are away to Nairn next weekend
in another massive game for the black and whites.
