Academy
opened the scoring on the quarter hour. Richard Macadie drove up the right flank
and crossed to the Turriff back post where Sam Mackay got in front of his marker
and nodded home from 5 yards out.
1 – 0
Two minutes later Stevie Cunningham threaded a pass through
the heart of the Turriff defense for Macadie who was on it in a flash beating
the off-side trap. He breezed into the box before hammering home into the
bottom right hand corner of Coutts's net.
2 – 0
On 20 minutes Turriff pulled a goal back. Mike McKenzie
supplied the perfect ball as he split the Academy defense. Nicholas Gray ran
onto it and Academy shouted in vain for off-side, but Gray carried on and from
the edge of the Academy box he rifled his shot past Michael Gray.
2 – 1
In typical fashion Academy broke up-field straight from the
re-start and regained their 2 goal lead. Richard Macadie had a pop on goal that
clipped a defender and spun up in the air. Geruzel held off his marker, took
the ball on his chest and then hammer the ball into the net from 7 yards out.
3 – 1
Academy were on full-on attack and Sam Mackay tore up the wing and he hammer the ball across goal
where Davie Allan threw his body forward but just couldn't connect with the
ball to turn it in.
The goal feast continued when Stevie Cunningham broke into
the box and drew keeper Coutts off his line before he teed up Geruzel for the
simplest of finishes from close range.
4 – 1
Even though Academy had a 3 goal lead Turriff were far from
finished and they kept plugging away. McKenzie held up a long pass and then laid
it into the path of Garry Harris who hit a scorcher on the run 25 yards from
goal but the ball flew just over the target.
In the last action before the half-time break Turriff won a
free kick just outside the Academy box. Lewis Davidson stood in front of the
ball and Gary Harris drove the free-kick past the outside of the Academy wall
and with Gray beat Harris held his head in his hands as the ball clipped off
the base of the right hand post and out for a bye-kick.

Six minutes after the re-start Academy went nap. Macadie
played the ball over the top to Mackay and he raced onto it. Keeper Coutts came
to meet him and from about 20 yards out Mackay chipped the ball over him and
into the back of the net for a really well taken goal.
5 – 1
Wilson made his first change taking
off Craig Shearer and giving Graham Bayne his first Academy action.
On the hour
Academy gifted the
visitors a goal. From just inside his own half Sam Mackay played the ball back
to Michael Gray who was off his line. Gray scrambled over to try to get to the
ball but if ran past him and into the net for one of the weirdest goals you'll be likely to see.
5 – 2
Turriff made another change with Stephen Gauld coming on
the influential McKenzie.
Turriff launched another attack and Nicholas Gray worked to the
edge of the box and flashed a shot across goal that Alan Farquhar cleared for a
corner. The ball was swung in and was headed cleared for another corner by Graham
Bayne. It was whipped in again and it broke through a ruck of bodies before
falling to the feet of James Chalmers. He looked to have been taken by surprise
and stabbed his attempt wide of target.
In a cracking end to end game Davie Allan went on another
surging run before sliding the ball to Macadie who fired a shot across the face
of goal that keeper Coutts got a hand to and it flicked off the outside of his
post and out for a corner. Macadie swung in the corner which the Turriff
defense failed to clear and it fell to Graham Bayne who thrashed it home into
the roof of the net.
6 – 2
Ross Allan came on for Richard Macadie with a quarter hour
left to play.
Academy kept pushing for more goals and Mackay swung a corner
into the box for Bayne to rise highest but his header went over the top of the
target.
Cunningham then forced another save from Coutts before Ross
Allan started to influence the game and he burst into the box from a free-kick
before having a crack on goal that Coutts got a touch on and it flicked off the
outside of the post and out for a corner. The corner ball was fired in and
cleared but picked up by Stevie Cunningham and he fired a shot on target that
Coutts tipped over his cross-bar.
Ross Allan was using his speed to good effect as he hit the
bye-line before crossing to his brother Davie
who got to the ball but it flew over the top of the cross-bar.
Academy were playing silky football and in a lovely flowing
move Davie Allan combined with Bryan McKiddie who sipped in Ross Allan who's
shot across goal beat keeper Coutts before smacking off the base of the post
and back into Coutts arms.
In the next Academy attack it was Ross Allan again on the
end of things as he picked the ball up in the Turriff box following some slack
defending but he could only stab his attempt from close range straight to
Coutts who had a very busy afternoon in the Turriff goal.
In the last action of the game Ross Allan was dragged down
as he again terrorized the Turriff defense and Academy were awarded a
free-kick. Mackay floated the free-kick into the box and the ball flew across
the face of the Turriff goal with two or three Academy bodies just failing to
get to the ball to turn it home.
Referee Billy Baxter brought the game to an end with both
sets of supporters having been treated to a cracker.
