Super Scorries in seventh heaven
Academy went storming back to the top of the table after a sensational, record-breaking 7-0 hammering of Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park.Goal hero Richard Macadie became the first Wick player ever to score five goals in a Highland League match as the super Scorries racked up their biggest away win since joining the HFL in 1994. Macadie took his competitive goal tally for Academy past the 100 mark during the course of the afternoon and he rightly grabbed the headlines, but the game was also memorable for a masterclass by Davie Allan as he had a hand in all seven goals. The stunning margin of victory was enough to send the Scorries above Cove Rangers on goal difference after the Allan Park side were held to a draw by Brora.
Academy went into Saturday's game looking to complete a league double over Buckie, having won 2-1 when the teams met at Harmsworth Park in August, and they got off to a fine start when Macadie opened the scoring after just six minutes.
Allan raced down the inside-left channel and tried a shot which was blocked by keeper Kevin Main. When the ball came back to Allan, he set up Macadie for a simple finish from 10 yards.
The second came on 17 minutes in the aftermath of a corner after a shot from Lukasz Geruzel had been deflected onto the bar and over. From Allan's flag-kick, the ball came out to Stevie Cunningham who blasted an unstoppable shot from 30 yards into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
Academy extended their lead on 35 minutes when Macadie took a pass from Allan and fired an angled shot into the top right-hand corner from the edge of the box. That was the attacking midfielder's 100th competitive goal for the Scorries.
The Jags were finding Allan too hot to handle and he delivered another assist five minutes into the second half, this time picking out Geruzel who supplied a neat finish to make it 4-0.
The fifth came after 75 minutes when Allan combined with newly introduced substitute Gary Weir, who was brought down by Paul Napier inside the box. Macadie sent the spot-kick high to Main's right to complete his hat-trick.
Man-of-the-match Macadie went on to add two more, in the 85th and 86th minutes, each time being presented with a tap-in after Allan had advanced down the right to create the opening.
It had been an outstanding performance by the whole team. And, to cap it all, manager Barry Wilson got the clean sheet he had been looking for after urging his players to tighten up at the back. All in all, a day to remember for the Scorries.
To put the result into perspective, it was achieved without the influential Sam Mackay (suspended) at the home of a club who won back- to-back league titles as recently as 2009/10 and 2010/11.

Cove went into their home match against Brora aiming to consolidate their place at the top of the table and Jamie Beagrie put them in front with 23 minutes gone. Craig Campbell equalised on 38 minutes and the same player put Brora ahead just after the hour mark.
However, Cove preserved the unbeaten home record as Martin Johnston levelled it up at 2-2 with a quarter of an hour remaining.
Academy and Cove are now both on the 30-point mark but the Scorries have a marginally superior goal difference and a game in hand.
Deveronvale warmed up for their trip to Harmsworth Park with a 2-0 victory over Strathspey Thistle at Princess Royal Park. Scott Henry headed in the opener in the seventh minute and Grant Noble added the second four minutes after the intrerval as the Banffers moved into third place.
Forres Mechanics jumped up to fourth after a 5-2 win against Lossiemouth at Mosset Park in the only other HFL fixture to beat the wintry weather.
There were two headed goals for Graham Fraser, while Craig McGovern, Kyle Scott and Scott Lawrie were also on target for the Can-Cans. Ross Archibald scored both Lossie's goals.
