Academy came out for the second half firing on all
cylinders and it was no surprise that they doubled their lead after 51 minutes.
A long ball up the inside left channel found Allan and he showed his pace
marching into the box and then rounded the keeper before firing home from a tight
angle.
0 – 2
Twelve minutes later and wick thought they had added a
third, Richard Macadie had a shot from 25 yards that hit the cross bar and
bounced down and out to Weir who headed home only for the flag to go up for off-side.
Brora got a lifeline on 69 minutes when a soft free-kick
was conceded out on the left which Baxter floated in. Gray seemed to be fouled
under pressure from James Murray and Alex Macleod. Referee Ross ignored the
claims for a foul and Macleod stabbed the ball home.
1 – 2
Academy had a great chance to put the game beyond doubt
but failed to do so. Gary Manson poked
the ball in-field to Stevie Cunningham who then played Macadie in on goal one-on-one,
but he could only fire his shot straight at the advancing McCarthy.
Full-time 1 – 2
Based on recent form over the last 6 games Academy have the 3rd
best record in the league with 13 points out of 18. Cove have amassed 15 points
in their last 6 games, but front runners Forres continue to set the pace with
16 out 18 points and they remain table toppers going into Christmas, 5 points
clear of Cove with two games in hand.
