AJG Parcels North
of Scotland Cup round-up
Halkirk
spot-on for semi-final place
Academy's
conquerors Halkirk United claimed another Highland League scalp to book their
place in the last four of the AJG Parcels North of Scotland Cup. The North
Caledonian League champions knocked out Clach on penalties at Harmsworth Park
on Wednesday August 17th to set up a semi-final date with Caley Thistle.
Ex-Scorrie Nigel
Mackenzie put Halkirk ahead after 10 minutes but the Lilywhites got themselves
level with a spot-kick from Gordon Morrison with 20 minutes to go.
Halkirk won the
shoot-out 3-2 with Alan Sinclair, another former Academy player, netting the
decisive kick. Keeper Graeme Williamson saved two of Clach's penalties.
Caley Thistle had
progressed the previous week after a 5-3 victory over Brora Rangers at Dudgeon
Park, with ex-Academy frontman Shane Sutherland netting a hat-trick. Andrew
Shinnie weighed in with a double for the Inverness side, with James Murray,
Mark Smith and Liam Baxter replying for Brora.
Robbie Duncanson
netted a hat-trick, including one from the penalty spot, in Nairn County's 3-1
win against Strathspey Thistle at Seafield Park. Fraser Munro scored for the
Grantown Jags.
Nairn's semi-final
opponents are Forres Mechanics, who edged out Rothes 2-1 at Mackessack Park.
The Speysiders forged ahead through a Nathan Sharp own goal but Lee Fraser hit
a double to send Forres through.
The semi-finals are
scheduled for Wednesday August 24th, with a venue still to be confirmed for the
Halkirk/Caley encounter. Forres are at home to Nairn in the other tie.
