Rothes were enjoying a good spell and it took a good one handed save from Bokas to keep the scores at zero when Fletcher smashed a shot from a tight angle that Bokas did well to block.
Back to the other end of the park and this time it was Horne that was called into action. Cunningham threaded the ball through the Rothes back-line to Macadie and he went one-on-one with the keeper but Horne made a good block.
In the next attack Cunningham drove up the left wing and delivered into the box where Allan found half a yard and got an attempt on target but it went straight into the arms of keeper Horne.
Half time 0 – 0
Academy made a change for the start of the second half with Sam Mackay coming on for youngster James Mackay.
In the first minute Academy looked to have a good shout for a penalty turned away by referee Lyon when Allan looked to have been dragged down in the box.
Academy took the lead with nine minutes of the second period played. Steven hit the bye-line before crossing to the back post and Macadie rose highest to nod home with a rare header.
1 – 0
Allan should have done better 5 minutes later when he was clear in the box but he scuffed his shot to keeper Horne.
In a great flowing move Academy then thought they had gone two up when Mackay tapped home but he was flagged off-side.
Fletcher was a hand-full for the Academy defence every time he got the ball, and he had another attempt again saved by Bokas.
Sam Mackay was starting to have a positive influence on the game and he found himself through the middle and one-on-one with Horne but the Rothes keeper again made a good save.
It was a day when the keepers at both ends earned their corn when Fletcher first pulled off another good save from Bokas and at the other end substitute Weir played Macadie into the box but Horne was on hand to make another really good save.
Horne must have had a shout for man of the match when in the 37th minute he pulled off another good save with his feet to deny Sam Mackay.
With 5 minutes left on the clock Mackay had a golden opportunity to double the Scorries lead but he missed a sitter following good play by Macadie as he laid it on a plate but Mackay shot wide with the goal beckoning.
A minute later Weir hunted down the ball at the edge of the Rothes penalty box. It looked to be going for a bye-kick but Weir managed to hook it back around Scott Bowie and laid it onto the toes of Macadie who hit it on the run but the ball smashed off the under-side of the cross-bar and out to safety.
Full time 1 – 0
The win lifts the Scorries out of the bottom four as they over-take Clach into 14th spot. Academy now face an away trip to Rothes for the last game of the season next Saturday.
