cancellation of the testimonial match fixture against Dunfermline
Athletic FC which was intended to be the show-piece event of the
testimonial programme in recognition of Craig Shearer’s eleven seasons
as a player for Wick Academy FC.
A thorough review of the costs to be incurred with hosting this fixture
has shown that it would not be financially viable and as such the
fixture against Dunfermline Athletic FC has regretfully had to be
cancelled.
Efforts to secure a supporting fixture between Dunfermline Athletic FC
and other regional opposition on Sunday 18th July, which would have
contributed towards the travel and accommodation expenses, have proved
fruitless. This has been the principle reason for the Testimonial
Committee reaching this difficult decision at this stage.
The fixture was scheduled for Saturday 17th July 2010 with a 3pm kick
off. There will not now be a testimonial fixture on this date.
The Testimonial Committee would like to thank Dunfermline Athletic FC
for supporting the testimonial activities associated with Craig Shearer
but recognise that the finances associated with the fixture were
prohibitive and could not be sustained for the purposes of the
testimonial programme.
The Testimonial Committee are currently exploring alternative options
for the testimonial match fixture. Further details to be announced in
due course.
