With 4 minutes of the half remaining Academy looked to have squared the scores. Shearer provided a cross into the box that Macadie headed home, but referee Fraser chalked it off for an infringement that he must have spotted.

Cove almost doubled their lead with the last kick of the half. Phillip Reid did well to break through the Academy defence and got a shot on target from a tight angle that More saved low down at his left post.

Half Time 0 – 1

Academy had the perfect start to the second half. Andrew Macleod charged through the middle of the Cove mid-field releasing the ball to Gary Farquhar who played Gary Weir into the box and he managed to beat Jake Strachan and put just enough curl on his shot to avoid keeper Windrum and the ball sneaked in off his left post to the delight of the Academy players.

1 – 1

Academy followed this by two further attempts in quick succession, Weir playing in Farquhar who shot wide from 10 yards out, and Alan Sinclair then setting up Weir in a similar move, but Weir's shot went high over the cross-bar.

With Academy pressing men up the field in search of the winner, Cove broke in the 54th minute and Phillip Reid was played in on goal but with a clear path in which to have a shot he squared the ball and Alan Sinclair cleared the danger.

Academy were now attacking with every opportunity and looked the more likely side to go on and win the game. Martin Gunn almost did that following a neat interchange with Macadie played him into the Cove box but keeper Windrum came and met him and pulled out a good stop.

Windrum then denied Farquhar as he pulled off another fine save from a free-kick as he managed to get a hand to the shot to turn it for a corner.

With 5 minutes left the referees assistant spotted keeper Windrum come just outside his box with ball in hand, and the Cove defence did well to charge down Gunn's free-kick attempt to snuff out another Academy attack.

A minute later and Macadie forced another good stop from Windrum as he dived to make the save, and Weir almost pounced on the loose ball but Windrum recovered to smother the ball.
