6 of the best for Academy today against Rothes see the Scorries chalk up their biggest win of the season.

In an action packed game Academy had their first attempt on goal within the 3rd minutes. Stewart Ross drove at the Rothes defence and had a crack from 20 yards, but it went high over the top of keeper Dunn’s cross-bar.

Academy continued to make the better of the early chances when 5 minutes later Richard Macadie made good ground up the left wing and sent in a deep cross that was just too high for the head of Davie Cowie.

In the next move Cowie turned provider when he crossed from the right and Martin Gunn got his head to the ball bit it looped just over the top of goal.

Rothes opened the scoring against the run of play in the 18th minute. A long punt up-field was met by David Mowat and he headed the ball straight up into the air. As the ball fell Mowat and Gunn hesitated for the ball, and the resulting confusion lead to a Rothes player getting fouled 25 yards from goal. Collins struck a thunder-bolt of a free-kick and it flew past More who was rooted to the spot.

0 – 1

Rothes almost extended their lead 3 minutes later. Good linking play between Grant and Duncan in the Academy box saw Grant get a shot on goal, but More saved it well.

As the half wore on Academy started to come back into the game again, and just before the half-hour young striker Shane Sutherland muscled in between two Rothes defenders and managed to get a header on target, but keeper Dunn made the save.

A few minute later and More denied Mark Taylor with a fantastic diving save following Taylors headed attempt on goal. This kept Academy in the game.

Academy levelled the game with 37 minutes played. A Cowie corner into the box and Gary Manson sneaked in un-marked to head home.

1 – 1

This kicked Academy into life and a minute later Macadie almost scored the second. He drove at the Rothes defence with ball at feet and struck the ball whilst on the run from 25 yards out and it whistled just over the tip of the Rothes cross-bar.

Academy took the lead 2 minutes from the half-time whistle. Sutherland played a neat ball through to Manson and he dinked it over keeper Dunn, who was off his line, with his left foot.

2 – 1

Academy were pushing forward at every opportunity, and the next to have a pop at goal was Cowie, who sent in a low drive from 20 yards out, but Dunn got his body well behind it. That was followed by Sutherland shooting just wide of Dunn’s right post from within the box, and Cowie having another attempt on the turn go just high.

The Academy pressure paid off just on the half-time whistle when good work from Sutherland forced a corner. Cowie sent the corner in low, and Stewart Ross ran in and met it at the left hand post and it flew past an out-stretched Dunn.

3 – 1

Half time 3 – 1

The second half continue in the same vein, with Academy attacking from the off. The first attempt of the half coming from Martin Gunn who had a shot from 18 yards that deflected off a defender, and Dunn did well to make the save.

That was followed by a good break-out of defence by Rothes, and Chris Grant had a crack at goal that More saved well.

Academy extended their lead in the 56 minute. Stewart Ross sent a ball over the top of the Rothes defence, Shortreed miss-judged it, and it fell to Gunn and his right foot shot from 18 yards out just evaded keeper Dunn and sneaked in at the right post.

4 – 1

Academy went nap just before the hour. Stewart Ross sent another ball into the Rothes box, and Graeme Bain made a mistake and gave the ball away to Macadie who fired home.

5 – 1

The icing on the cake came 4 minutes before the final whistle. Macadie played the ball into substitute Bryan McKiddie. McKiddie’s shot at goal was parried back out by keeper Dunn, but Gary Manson was on hand to head home his hat-trick.

6 – 1

Full time 6 – 1
