Wick Academy F.C first applied for SFA membership in 1911. This made them applicable to enter the Scottish Qualifying cup, and their first ever SQ Cup game was a home tie against Inverness Thistle in the same year, 1911. In those days the trip up from Inverness was a six hour train journey. Academy won the game 4-0.

They were fortunate to get another home draw in the second round, drawn against Caledonian, but this time around they got knocked out 1-4. Caledonian travelled  up for the game on the Friday and stayed in a hotel in Thurso that night. They then took the morning train through to Wick for the match on the Saturday. Gate receipts for the game was £17 and admission was 6d for men and 3d for boys. Ladies were admitted free of charge.
