Don MacMillan

  A Helmsdale Lad. A very experienced former Ross County, and Brora Rangers No 1 who came back to Academy after suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.
Currently the automatic choice for the No 1 jersey.

James More

  Goalkeeper. Young custodian drafted in from Wicks U19 squad to replace Don MacMillan during his suspension. Had a brilliant match against local rivals Brora and is considered an able replacement when called upon.

Alec Lamb

  From Wick. Went from school to Ross County where he captained the Under 18 team. Missed a year through illness (Glandular Fever) before being released. However since joining Academy he has been staking a claim for a regular place as he gradually reclaims full fitness. Won the Club’s Young Player of the Year award last season.

Andrew MacLeod

  Dunbeath lad Andrew is a reliable no-nonsense defender who has progressed from local amateur football side Wick Groats. His 100% comitment has seen him become an established member of the squad.

Paul McCallum

  A very versatile player who can be, and has been, used in all areas of the field apart from Goal! Moved north to Caithness from Central Scotland and was spotted playing for local amateur team Castletown. In his third season in the Highland League, he has previously played with Halkirk Utd in the North Caledonian League.

Graeme Reid

  In his third season since rejoining the Club after a successful spell with with Thurso FC in the North Reserve League. A rugged centre half who is also a good header of the ball and likes to advance forward when the opportunity arises.

Shaun Sinclair

  Promising young defender who is very composed when on the ball. Just completed a recent spell with SFL Club Ross County. A definate player to watch for the future.
Defence Stewart Sinclair  
Talented uncompromising young Central Defender, who plays his football with John O Groats Fc in the Caithness County Summer League. A vital member of WAFC U19 Squad.

Tough tackling, good in the air and comfortable on the ball. Has featured for the WAFC first team during pre-season friendlies and on ocassions from the bench on Highland league duty. Player to watch for the future.

Martin Gunn

  Club Captain. Talented midfield playmaker had a spell with Dundee Utd as a teenager before joining his local team to coincide with their joining the HFL in 1994. Now in his 12th season with Wick, “Shoe” as he is known is the one Academy player who would aguably get a game for any other HFL team. A creative midfield playmaker, previously selected for the Highland League North Select, he gets his fair share of goals from both open play and set-pieces. Played in all three matches for the Scottish Semi-Professional squad in the recent Home International Competition in Northern Ireland.

Gavin Henderson

  A product of former Highland Amateur Cup winners Wick Thistle, Gavin is a talented young player with a good left foot. Always works hard in midfield and can shoot effectively from distance. Settled well into the Highland League last season.

Martin MacGregor

  Promising young midfielder from Thurso who is in his second HFL season. Both brave and pacey, he previously had trials with Hibernian and was voted Man of the Match in the Pre-saeson friendly against Ross County.
Left club in Nov 2005, now playing for Brora Rangers.

Gary Manson

  Consistent young player who operates on the left, often as an attacking wing back. Signed from Highland Amateur Cup winners Pentland Utd, he came through the Academy U18’s to become a regular in the team. Also had a spell with Ross County youths. Plenty of pace and influential at set pieces. Previously selected for the Highland League North select.

Nigel MacKenzie

  An attacking midfielder with plenty of pace. now In his third spell with Academy, having played for Thurso in the North Caledonian League in the interim. Previously a member of the well known Highland Amateur Cup winners Pentland Utd.

Craig Shearer

  Signed from local team, Wick Groats, this local youngster progressed from the U18’s to become a regular in the first team. A genuine box to box midfielder. One of the most under-rated players in the Highland League, consistantly giving 100% and winning the Clubs player of the year award last season.

Gary Farquhar

  Big news signing, Gary has rejoined his home town club during the close season. Starting his career with local side, Wick Rovers, he spent a couple of years with Dundee FC as a teenager before having spells at Brora Rangers, St Johnstone, Inverness Caleonian Thistle (from which he had a loan spell at the Harmsworth) before joining his last club, Nairn County. Obviously a quality addition to the side, broadening the manager’s tactical options.

Member of Ross County’s U17 Cup Winning Squad last season before being released.
Signed for Wick Academy Fc during pre-season.
Talented creative midfield player, strong running, tough tackling player and very comfortable on the ball. Has scored some vital goals already this season for WAFC U19 squad from a central midfield role.
Box to box player.
Made a few appearances from the bench for the 1st team squad already.
Player for the future.
Released early in season, now playing for Thurso FC.
Midfield Kevin Swanson  
Another young player who plays for John O Groats Fc in the Caithness County Summer League.
A member of the WAFC U19 Squad.
Creative Central midfielder with good technique and balance.
Very good passer of the ball and has been known to weigh in with some goals.
Is another young player that has featured for the 1st team in pre-season friendlies as well as the odd appearance on the bench in the HL.
One to look out for in the coming seasons.

Davie Cowie

  Hailing from Helmsdale.David is the nephew of former manager Don Cowie. Signing in 2002, he has settled well into Highland League football. A strong running confident player on the right side of midfield, with some importnat goals to his credit. He has made a great start to this season after being plaqued with injury last time around.

Mark Nichol
 

Thurso lad. A talented young striker who was part of a successful Academy U18 squad that included Shearer and Manson. Played for Thurso in the North Caledonian League. Strong individual player who can hold the ball up well and knows his way to the onion bag! Has scored goals for fun at U18, local summer league and North Reserve league levels. Settled well into HL football. Given time to settle into the HL, Mark will go onto prove to be a big asset to the club. Just signed a new 1 year contract extension.

Gary Weir

  A raw never say die talent from Lybster with a keen eye for goal. Now in his third season with Academy, he has scored some vital goals for the Club. Making big strides last season, his form made it difficult for Manager Budge to leave him out of the starting eleven.

Sandy Sutherland

 

Another young talented forward from Lybster. Impressed manager Budge with his goals whilst playing for Wick Thistle in the local summer league. Given an opportunity to impress during the club’s pre-season and never let anyone down.Tremendous attitude and eager to learn. Terrific finisher and tricky on the ball. Scored some important goals for the U19s. A regular on the 1st team bench.One to watch!
