Both teams shared the spoils at the end of an exciting encounter played in front of a big crowd at a sun drenched Harmsworth Park .
Although their was no goals to shout about, both sets of supporters were treated to an entertaining match with both teams playing good flowing attacking football.
The home side were the first to threaten in 7 minutes when Craig Shearer sent Gary Farquhar through and the veteran blasted goalwards from 25 yards only for his shot to be deflected away for a corner. The resulting corner was only partially cleared and Craig Shearer drove a left foot shot just wide of Ally Ridgers’ right hand post. Half-Time: Wick Academy 0 Clachnacuddin 0
It seemed everyone was appealing in the 46th minute when Craig Shearer went down having gone round Ally Ridgers form a Gary Manson through ball. While their may have been some contact referee Billy Baxter was having none of it and sided with those who felt a yellow card for diving was in order. The Lilywhites then applied some pressure winning three corners in a row and going close but the Scorries back line held firm. In the 65th minute that back line was given a helping hand from the woodwork as Lewis Ross rose to crash a Gordon Morrison corner off the bar from 12 yards. Again Wick hit back at Clach, Manson & Gunn combined to allow Gunn to fire a curling right foot shot goalwards from 20yds only for Gunn to see his shot clip the top of Ridger’s bar and over.
This time it was the turn of Clach to go on the counter attack, Gavin Henderson lost possession 25yds out to Davie Ross who’s fierce right foot drive flew inches by MacMillan’s lefthand post.
Their was a number of late efforts but in the end they came to nothing as both sides settled for a share of the points.
Full Time: Wick Academy 0 Clachnacuddin 0 Both teams deserved praise for making it such an entertaining game in a matchh that was a good advert for Highland League football.
This point for Wick was the first of the season and if they continue to produce that kind of form it won’t be long before they add to that tally. Their was two bookings in the match; Wick’s Shearer (Diving) and Gary Manson (Dissent).
