Match Report

In hard fought derby under the Harmsworth Park lights Brora took the points with a deflected shot from Dale Gillespie being enough to separate the teams. Academy spurned a great chance to share the points when a Lukasz Geruzel penalty was saved by Joe Malin.

Play was stopped for several minutes just before the half-time interval when Ross Allan was stretchered off with what was confirmed later as a broken leg, and Collin Williamson also came off when he fell from height on his shoulder.

In the first half Academy had a couple of great chances to take the lead. Davie Allan demonstrated his blistering pace as flew up the flank beating two or three defenders before crossing the ball along the face of goal for Lukasz Geruzel but he didn't make a clean contact and his shot span wide of the target.

Academy then had a great flowing move on the hour when Academy cleared their lines from a Brora free-kick and broke up-field. Davie Allan took it on again from about the half-way line and he drove on before releasing Sam Mackay. Mackay went head-to-head with Joe Malin but couldn't quite get to the ball in time and Malin managed to force him wide and eventually block his shot with his feet.

Just before the interval Ross Allan and Dale Gillespie went in for a 50-50 ball and Allan fell to the ground. Referee Graham Fraser was quick to spot that there was a problem and immediately stopped the game. Ross was eventually taken off on a stretcher and the bad news was confirmed later in the evening that he'd sustained a broken leg.

In the last action of the half Brora's Ally MacDonald found a yard of scape about 18 yards from goal and he had a powerful shot that went straight to McCarthy with the young Academy keeper saving it with relative ease.

Half Time - Wick Academy 0 - Brora Rangers 0

10 minutes after the restart Brora opened the scoring. The ball was worked out if mid-field up to Dale Gillespie and his shot from 18 yards out looked to be going wide of target but took a wicked deflection off Grant Steven wrong-footing Sean McCarthy and flew into the net.

0 - 1

Colin Williamson climbed above Davie Allan to challenge for a high ball and Williamson over-balanced and fell heavily on his shoulder. He was the second casualty of the evening as he was in obvious pain in the way that he held his arm and couldn't continue.

Academy were then presented with a chance to get right back in the game. Davie Allan drove through the heart of the Brora defence and was chopped down by Grant Munro just inside the penalty area. Munro was lucky to stay on the park as it appeared that he stopped a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Lukasz Geruzel stepped up to the plate to take the spot kick and he fired it low to Malin's right side. The keeper Brora keeper guessed the right way and got down to get a strong hand on the ball to make the save.

Neither side could add to the scoring and Brora added another 3 points to their total in their pursuit of anther league title.
