Match Report

The road to Hampden starts again today and Academy have just kicked off at Grant Street Park. The only squad change to the side that ran league leaders Cove close last weekend is Grant Campbell in for Gary Manson.

Academy have the first real chance of the game with 16 minutes played. Alan Farquhar sent Sam Mackay down the wing and he hit the Clach bye-line before cutting back to Cunningham. The ball got stuck under Cunningham's feet, but he managed to pass it to Richard Macadie on the edge of the box. Macadie fired a shot on target that keeper Hastie managed to tip over the top of the cross-bar for a corner. The resulting corner was cleared and Macadie punted it back into the box where Shearer was unmarked. He sent his effort just wide of target but at any rate he was flagged for off-side.

Clach have a great chance to open the scoring after 21 minutes. Scott Davidson played a diagonal ball out of defence. Kevin Fraser ran onto it beating the off-side trap and lobbed Alan Bokas but his attempt went just over the cross-bar.

Clach open the scoring with 25 minutes on the clock. Alan Pollock whipped in a corner from the right hand side and Steven MacDonald rose the highest in the box and bulleted home his header.

1 - 0

In 31 mins Academy come close to squaring the scores. A free kick from the edge of the box is worked wide to Sam Mackay and his effort was blocked by keeper Hastie. The ball was scrambled clear and Craig Shearer got a foot to it and sent it goal-bound but the Clach defence somehow managed to clear it around the post.

Academy tie the scores in the 38th minute. Richard Macadie fired in a corner for the right. Grant Campbell headed it wide to Alan Farquhar who floated a high ball into the box. Stevie Cunningham got a flick on it and it fell perfectly to David Allan and he scorched a first-time volley into the back of the net.

1 - 1

Half Time 1 - 1

15 mins of the second half gone and no more goal scoring chances to speak of thus far. Clach have made their first change with the highly rated Kyle MacLean coming on for Allan Pollock.

15 minutes of the game left and it looks as if this will be a nail-bitter to the end. Neither team can add to the scoring.

Clach go on the attack with Gordon Morrison driving up the wing before crossing to substitute Kyle Mac:ean in acres of space. Just as he is about to pull the trigger Grant Campbell made a great blocking tackle to send the ball for a corner.

Academy make a change with Ross Allan coming on for Stevie Cunningham.

Clach take the lead. A short corner is taken that is fired into the back post. The ball reached the Clach right-back Colin Williamson and he bundled it into the net.

2 - 1

Things are hotting up and Craig Shearer and Steven MacDonald both get booked by referee Mather.

Into the dying minutes and Clach go down to 10 men when Steven MacDonald picked up his second yellow card.

With what can only be seconds left deep into injury time Academy grab the equalizer. A thrown in from the right reaches Craig Shearer and he flicked the ball to the near post where David Allan dived in amongst a ruck of players and got his head to the ball to glance it into the back of the net past the right hand of keeper Hastie.

2 - 2

With no time left on the clock referee Mather blows the full time whistle and Academy earn the re-play at the Harmsworth Park next weekend to the joy of the travelling Scorrie's support.
