Match Report

Gary Manson reached a magnificent milestone today when he made his 400th league appearance for Wick Academy.

In a dress-rehearsal for next weekend's Highland League Cup final Academy drew 1-1 with visitors Cove Rangers. Connor Scully opened the scoring for the visitors after 10 minutes, but Richard Macadie secured the draw with his 37th minute equaliser.

Academy came close in the first minute of the game when keeper Murray Kinnaird dived to his left to keep out Grant Campbell's drive.

The visitors however drew first blood in the 10th minute. Daniel Park whipped a dangerous ball into the Academy box which fell kindly for Connor Scully who drove the ball low past Sean McCarthy into the bottom left corner from 16 yards out.

0 - 1

Park should have doubled the advantage for the visitors minutes later. He was played into the Academy box but blasted his attempt over the crossbar.

Keeper Kinnaird saved a volley from Richard Macadie on the half hour but in 37 minutes Macadie ran onto a pass from Gary Weir to fire home the equaliser.

1 - 1

In the last action of the first half Park got himself into another good goal scoring position but his shot from 18 yards flew just over the bar.

Into the second half Jamie Watt ran onto to pass from Scully and rounded keeper Sean McCarthy but the ball ran wide and his shot landed in the side netting.

Macadie scorned a good chance for Wick firing past the post with the goal gaping after good work from Davie Allan on the left wing.

Neither side could find a winner and the match ended a draw which sets things up nicely for next weekend's Breedon Aggregates Highland League Cup final in Inverness.
