The Scorries had their wings clipped at Claggan Park on Saturday when Fort turned a half-time deficit into a victory to claim their biggest scalp in a recent revival in the fortunes of the perennial highland League basement outfit.
For many, the biggest surprise was that the match went ahead at all given that it followed a run of seven weather-related postponements, with Gordon Connelly's men acting as belated first foots to their hosts for whom this was just their third match of 2015.
The home team made their intentions clear from the start and went in front in the third minute when James Whyte struck a powerful shot into the net from about 20 yards.
1 - 0
The loss of the goal seemed to spark Academy into life and they equalised in the 26th minute. Alan Hughes, who was making his first appearance of the season, had his shot blocked by Fort goalkeeper David Osborne. The ball, however, fell to trialist Craig Campbell, who slotted the ball in to the net from 16 yards.
1 - 1
Two minutes later Academy took the lead when experienced striker Gary Weir scored with a powerful drive from the right-hand side of the penalty box.

Half Time - Fort William 1 - Wick Academy 2
Academy managed to retain the lead until the hour mark when the home side got back on level terms. Nick Stein grabbed an equaliser with an impressive overhead kick.
2 - 2
The Fort keeper Osborne pulled off a decisive save to deny Weir and soon after the Lochaber men regained the lead when Australia-bound Sean Grant struck a swerving free-kick past Academy keeper James More.
3 - 2
Grant's strike proved to be the winner although Craig Campbell almost got an equaliser when his shot struck the crossbar from 18 yards.
But the home team were not to be denied a creditable victory which consigned the Scorries to their first back-to-back league defeats since mid-August. The defeat may also prove to be costly come the end of the season as it may cost Academy a place in the league table.
