Match Report

A re-shuffled Wick Academy side went top of the league with a 3-0 win over visitors Fort William. Sean McCarthy and Alan Farquhar were both out with injuries and Davie Allan was suspended.

With Brora in Scottish Cup action the three points took the Scorries to the summit on goal difference over Turriff United. Brora are third 2 points further back, but they have three games in hand.

Fort William were no push-over today and James More had to pull off a great save from James Whyte to stop the visitors taking an early lead.

Harmsworth Park nerves were eased on 24 minutes when Gary Weir played a one-two with Richard Macadie and although the young Fort William keeper Robin Harvey managed to get a hand to the ball he couldn't prevent Macadie's shot going over the line.

Sam Mackay came on for the Scorries on 56 minutes and he made an impact as Academy started to play some better football.

Mackay played a great pass across the face of goal which James Pickles bullied his way onto the end of and he turned the ball home from close range to double the advantage.

The Fort Keeper pulled off two great saves to deny Macadie another goal before Sam Mackay put the game to bed when he beat the off-side trap running onto a Lukasz Geruzel slide-rule pass. Keeper Harvey came to meet him but Mackay kept his cool taking the ball around him and slotting home.
