Academy faced visitors Clachnacuddin tonight in the North of Scotland Cup 2nd round. Academy got off to a flyer when Gary Weir opened the scoring within the first 3 minutes. Sam Mackay swept home the second 5 minutes before the half-time break to put the Scorries in with a comfortable lead. Clach failed really to put much pressure on the Wick goal and Academy played well within themselves to notch up the win and march into the next round. Brora Rangers beat Halkirk United tonight and Brora now travel to Harmsworth Park for a very tasty semi-final.
Academy got the game off to a prefect start when Gary Weir opened the scoring with only 3 minutes played. Good pressure won the Scorries a corner which Richard Macadie whipped into the Clach box. Martine Callum headed clear but it fell to the feet of Weir and he rocketed the ball home past Clach keeper John Campbell.

Clach tried to rally and had a David Watson shot in the Academy penalty area blocked by Michael Steven before they created their best chance of the half. Martin Laing delivered a great cross into the box for David Chambers and with the goal at his mercy he failed to connect properly with the ball and Sean McCarthy had a comfortable save.
Five minutes before the break Academy doubled their advantage. Richard Macadie battled for the ball in the centre-circle and did well to win it off Scott MacLean. He drove forward before crossing into the box where Sam Mackay had yards of space and he slotted home with a composed finish from 10 yards out.

Half Time - Wick Academy 2 - Clachnacuddin 0
Straight from the re-start Weir almost scored Academy's 3rd. Macadie was again provider as he flighted a great pass into Weir but keeper Campbell pulled off a point-blank save to deny Weir a goal.
At the other end McCarthy was in action when he pulled off the best save of the night to deny Scott MacLean whose shot looked goal-bound.
Academy controlled the remainder of the game and had two more chances to increase the scoring before full-time.
Jack Halliday fed substitute Steven Anderson who ran in on goal but rather than having a pop himself he squared to Macadie who was in an off-side position.
Then at the death Sam Mackay crossed to Macadie but his first-time effort fizzed just wide of target.
Full-Time - Wick Academy 2 - Clachnacuddin 0
The win sees Academy through to the semi-final where we will face current Cup holders Brora Rangers at Harmsworth Park in what should be a cracker.
