Wick Academy got their season off to a winning start in the North of Scotland Cup 1st round beating Golspie Sutherland 4-0 in Golspie. A first half penalty from Richard Macadie set the Scorries on their way with Davie Allan, Gary Manson and Lukasz Geruzel also hitting the net in the second half to see Academy safely into the draw for the next round.
The opening goal of the game came in the 13th minute. The ball broke to Jack Halliday on the edge of the box and as he drove forward he was fouled. Referee Graham Fraser pointed to the spot and Richard Macadie dispatched the ball low to the keeper's left.
0 - 1
3 minutes later Academy crafted out another good chance. Following some lovely one-touch football Jack Halliday had a crack at goal from 15 yards out that whistled just past the Golspie right hand post.
Just before the half-hour another chance came the way of the Scorries. This time it was an Academy free-kick that Macadie got on target but Allan Bokas in the Golspie goal tipped it round the post for a corner. Academy took a short corner which Macadie eventually delivered to the back post where Grant Steven headed high of the target.
In the last minute of the first half a high ball was flicked onto Weir and it fell to Davie Allan on his left foot but he drove the ball over the top of the cross-bar.

In the first action of the second half the ball was cut into the Golspie box by Davie Allan for Gary Weir about 15 yards out in the centre of goal but he side footed his attempt over the bar.
Academy kept creating good chances as Davie Allan set up Stevie Cunningham but his left foot curling shot smacked off the post.
Academy pressure paid off in the 57th minute with a second goal. Academy took a short corner on the left where Macadie played a one-two with Davie Allan who drove a shot from a tight angle across the keeper and into the net.

Within a minute the Scorries converted again. This time Academy worked the ball up the left channel before it was played into Jack Halliday who stood on the ball allowing Gary Manson to hit a clean right foot shot that beat Bokas into the bottom left hand corner.
0 - 3
In the later stages all 3 subs came on for Academy with Geruzel making the biggest impact. Davie Allan slid a pass to Halliday who scuffed a shot about 25 yards from goal but the ball rolled to the feet of Geruzel who turned and he hammered it into the roof of the net.
0 - 4
Golspie had their best chance of the game in the closing minutes of the game. Grant Steven was short with a back-pass to McCarthy allowing substitute Munro to nip in but McCarthy stayed big and saved his shot with his knee to keep his clean sheet.
