Today's game marked Academy's 600th Highland League encounter since the Scorries joined the league in season 1994-95. Michael Gray also announced his retirement before the game started so he was made captain to mark the occasion.
The visitors threatened to spoil the party as they took an early lead when John Ross smacked a 20 yarder past Gray.
0 - 1
That seemed to kick Academy into life and the scores were level shortly afterwards when James Pickles had a pop at goal and his shot deflected off Mark Mackernie and into the net.
1 - 1
From that point Academy controlled the game and went ahead just after the half hour when Sam Mackay found himself with a yard of space but his shot at goal was blocked by Ronnie Jones. Richard Macadie was quickest to react and he pounced on the rebound and smashed it home from 18 yards.
2 - 1
Half-Time - Wick Academy 2 - Strathspey Thistle 1
Both sides made a change for the start of the second half. Stevie Cunningham came on for Grant Steven, and Nicholas Mochan replaced Alan Fraser for the visitors.
6 minutes after the break Davie Allan beat the off-side latching onto a Stevie Cunningham pass and he made no mistake with a cool finish to increase the lead.
3 - 1
Bad news was soon to follow for Alan Hughes. The young forward was having a great game but his match was brought to an end when Jack Maley dived in with a crunching tackle on the Strathspey bye-line. The game was stopped for several minutes with Hughes stretchered off and eventually taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle.
Academy kept up the onslaught on the Strathspey goal where from a corner kick both Sam Mackay and Lukas Geruzel hit the cross-bar before it fell to Davie Allan who smashed it home through a crowded penalty area.
4 - 1
In the last 5 minutes of the game with the Strathspey defence at sixes and sevens two further Academy goals wrapped up a comprehensive victory.
Michael Steven scored his first goal of the season when he threaded the ball home from a very tight angle past keeper Steven Martin.
5 - 1
Davie Allan then wrapped up proceeding with his hat-trick to cap a fine individual display by the Academy front-man.
6 - 1
Full-Time - Wick Academy 6 - Strathspey Thistle 1
The three point today secured an 8th place league finish for the Scorries, their 5th top 10 finish in the last 6 years.
