Match Report

Academy travelled to Harlaw Park today to face an in-form Inverurie Locos who have won their last 6 league games. The Scorries were without the services today of Grant Steven. Michael Steven, Sam Mackay and Ross Allan.

The hosts had a blistering first half scoring 4 unanswered goals and added another 3 in the second half to run out comfortable 7 - 0 winners and subject Academy to their heaviest defeat of the season.

The Locos opening goal of the game came after only 3 minutes when Neil Gauld fired in a dangerous ball that went over Michael Gray and into the corner of his net.

1 - 0

4 minutes later Craig Shearer left Michael Gray short with a headed back-past and Gauld snapped it up and rounded Gray and got his shot on target but Gary Manson cleared off the line.

John Maitland then came close firing a shot just past the post but the hosts were on fire and in the next attack they doubled their advantage.

Gary Manson gave away a free-kick for a hand-ball 28 yards from goal. Locos worked a short free-kick to David Ross who rifled a shot on target that Gray saved but Gauld was on hand to snap it up and stick the ball home from a yard out.

2 - 0

Goal number 3 came again from a conceded free kick 30 plus yards from the Academy goal. Neil McLean took it and fired a smashing attempt low inside Gray's bottom right hand corner.

3 - 0

Inverurie have dominated possession but Academy did create a chance from a throw-in on the left. Geruzel crossed to the back post but it went just over the head of Gary Weir.

On the half hour Shearer was called into defensive duties as he cleared a Martin Bavidge attempt that took a ricochet in the box.

A minute from half-time David Ross added another goal when he rifled a shot from 18 yards out on the left past Gray and into the net.

4 - 0

In the next attack it was almost more bad news for the Scorries when a Martin Bavidge shot smacked off the wood-work.

Half-Time - Inverurie Locos 4 - Wick Academy 0

At the start of the second half good inter-change play between Macadie and Geruzel on the 18 yard line saw Geruzel in on goal. He beat his marker and got a shot off that Goalkeeper Andy Reid went to clear but he miskicked the ball and Greig Mitchell headed off the line over the top of his cross-bar.

Ross Anderson added the next goal to put the home side nap when he fired home from the left flank.

5 - 0

Jordan Leyden whistled a shot just wide of the target and as play broke up-field substitute Alan Hughes had a great attempt that keeper Reid was equal to getting a hand to the ball to knock it over the bar.

It was a Locos substitute Andrew Hunter that then increased the scoring with a simple tap-in from close range.

6 - 0

Macadie free kick to back post cleared over for a corner and Academy then had a header amongst a ruck or players that came off the cross-bar. Ross Anderson then had a downward header from a corner that went just wide of target.

Great play from David Ross up the wing worked the Locos up the park again and his cross found Jordan Leydon but he knocked it over the cross-bar from 7 yards out.

Alan Hughes had a run up the left wing before passing to Macadie. He laid it off to Davie Allan who returned the ball to Macadie, he beat a few defenders before getting his shot off but it hit keeper Andy Reid in the chest and was cleared.

In the last minute Andrew Hunter cross the ball into the Academy box to Scott Begg who was bundled over and referee Anthony Cooper pointed to the spot. Martin Bavidge took the spot kick and made no mistake wrapping up a great afternoon for the Locos home support.
