Academy will play no more part in this season's Highland League Cup after being dumped out of the competition by visitors Lossiemouth.
Academy started the game playing up the Harmsworth slope with a strong blustery wind at their back. The Scorries had several pots on goal that either went just wide of target or straight to Lossie keeper Errol Watson.
Lossie however went closest to opening the scoring when Grant Steven cleared a Ryan Farquhar shot off his line that had beat James More.
Half Time - Wick Academy 0 - Lossiemouth 0
Five minutes into the second half the visitors took the lead. Callum Dunbar slid a ball through the middle of the Academy defence which slipped past Alan Farquhar. Elliot Winters ran onto it and from the right hand edge of the Academy box he steered his shot across the body of James More and into the corner of his net.
0 - 1
A mixture of dogged Lossiemouth defending and poor Academy passing kept the score at 0-1 and as the game looked to be all over Academy had a shout for a penalty when Kevin Flett appeared to have stuck his knee into David Allan who hit the floor. In the stramash that followed Sam Mackay got involved and was sent off by referee Alan Frew for raising his hands.
Worse was to follow when Lossiemouth broke from defence deep into injury time and a long ball found substitute Scott Dunn who raced onto it and was brought down by James More just inside the Academy box. More was booked for the challenge and Dunn fired home the spot kick off the inside of More's left hand post.
