Academy remain unbeaten in the League this season at Harmsworth Park as they pulled off yet another great win over visitors Cove Rangers. The result puts us back into second spot, just a point behind Cove who still top of the table.
Gary Weir opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he got a foot on a Sam Mackay cross. Cove pulled one back 2 minutes before the half-time break when defender Blair Yule fired home with a fantastic 30 yard strike that found the top corner of the net.
Cove had the better of the second half and really piled the pressure on looking for the winner, but the Academy defence stood stead-fast. Lukasz Geruzel made his return after a few weeks out injured, and 13 minutes after his introduction he flicked on a great pass to Richard Macadie and he ran into the box, held off his marker and finished in some style to secure the points.
Alan Farquhar was awarded the sponsor's man of the match, but James More couldn't have been far behind him in making his own claim for the award as he pulled off a string of great saves during the match to deny Cove from increasing their goal tally.
Cove came close to scoring in their first attack. Ryan Stott swung a free-kick into the Academy box and Martin Johnston got a foot on the ball in front of Michael Steven but it flashed just past More's left hand post.
More made the first of a string of good saves in the next attack. Another free-kick was delivered which Johnston headed on and Jamie Beagrie's right foot shot looked goal-bound, but More flung himself across to his left to get a hand on the ball turning it for a corner.
Wick took the lead on 18 minutes when Craig Shearer fed the ball down the left wing for Sam Mackay who cut in along the goal line and slipped the ball into the six yard box. Keeper McKenzie looked to have got a hand on it, but it fell to Gary Weir and he stabbed it home.

The sometimes frantic end to end action was punctuated for much of the first half by numerous free kicks. More saved a close range header from Jamie Beagrie, again getting down to his left and getting a hand on the ball to claw it clear.
Davie Allan almost doubled the Wick lead when he raced past the Cove defence and shot on target but keeper Stuart McKenzie deflected it with his foot.
More sprinted to the 18 yard line to snatch the ball away from Leydon and Ryan Stott while at the other end McKenzie saved at the feet of Michael Steven and then caught a Grant Steven header.
Cove snatched an equaliser 2 minutes before the break when Blair Yule latched on to a loose ball 30 yards from goal and fired an unstoppable swerving drive into the top corner of the net.

Half-time - Wick Academy 1 - Cove Rangers 1
Cove's Martin Johnstone missed a couple of chances in the first five minutes of the second half and keeper More was kept busy as Cove kept up the pressure winning a series of corners around the hour mark while Academy's counter attacks were often caught by the Cove offside trap.
On 74 minutes More did well to get down and block a deflected shot by Cove substitute Connor Scully. The ball was cleared up to Academy's Polish substitute striker Lucasz Geruzel who played an exquisite through ball ahead of Richard Macadie who steered it with inch perfect accuracy past the keeper's left foot and just inside the post for the winning goal.
2 - 1
Interpassing between by Macadie and Allan set up Geruzel for an 18 yard drive which was saved by McKenzie.
Cove laid siege to the Wick goal in the final five minutes, More making a couple of vital saves, but they couldn't find an equaliser. The "Harmsworth Roar" went up on the full time whistle.
