Academy face their 5th away game on the spin today, visiting Fraserburgh at the Broch. Based on the last 6 games played Academy have had the slightly better run of form having won 3, drawn 2 and lost 1. Fraserburgh have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 2. This is expected to be a very tough game.
It's a dull over-cast day in Fraserburgh and the game has just kicked off.
Academy open with some confidence with good touches by Macadie and Shearer in the centre circle. Shearer fired the ball up-field ahead of Ross Allan who was over-lapping on the wing but he was stopped by a firm tackle from Bryan Hay.
Fraserburgh have a good triangular passing move on left but Grant Steven stepped in and closed off the danger.
Academy open the scoring in the 6th minute. Sam Mackay played an exquisite pass down the middle of the park that split the Broch defence. Davie Allan sprinted onto it and collided with keeper Leask, but Allan was the first to his feet and tapped in the loose ball from 6 yards out.
0 - 1
Academy almost grab a second but Cunningham is disappointed as his shot is blocked.
Fraserburgh are creating chances and Graham Johnston broke into the Academy box but Michael Steven was alert to the danger and nicked the ball off his toes for the expense of a corner. That was fired in but Gray came and fisted the ball away confidently at his back post.
In the next attack Fraserburgh win a free kick about 25 yards from goal. Dean Cowie struck a tricky swerving effort on target but Gray came and collected under pressure from the Broch front line.
Academy have a great chance to double their lead with about 20 minutes played. Manson broke into the box on the left with ball at feet. Keeper Leask came to meet him but Manson got around him and slipped the ball square to Davie Allan but his shot was blocked on the line by last ditch Fraserburgh defending.
Michael Gray is having a commanding half as he fisted away a Broch corner from under his cross-bar.
He's called into action again minutes later as Willie West drove forward on the left flank and crossed to Barbour, but his shot went straight to Gray who made a comfortable save.
It's end to end stuff and Davie Allan again shows his speed by stripping his defender and crossed from the right flank to Mackay on the penalty spot, but his shot was kicked off the line by a defender.
Fraserburgh have two good attacking moves. Fraser broke forward and slid the ball to Johnston but Ross Allan foiled him as he cleared the ball from his toes just inside the box. Morrice then sliced a 20 yard effort high and wide when he really should have been hitting the target.
Academy have a strong claim for a penalty kick waved away by referee Spence after Davie Allan was chopped down in the box by Ryan Christie.
Academy then had two border-line off-sides as Davie Allan and Macadie are on the verge of breaking free.
The home side broke on the left flank through Barbour who crossed from the far corner of the box, but Morrice pulled his shot back across the face of goal and wide of the target.
Academy battle back up-field and win a free kick. Manson floated it in from the Wick left but the ball just shaved over the top of Shearers head as he attacked it 6 yards out from goal.
Sam Mackay is booked for Academy following a miss-timed tackle. Cowie took the free-kick but Gray again took control and calmly collected the ball.
2 minutes before the break Macadie past up a great chance to double the Scorrie's lead. Davie Allan drove up the left channel and threaded him into the box and he went one-on-one with keeper Leask but he fired his shot onto the feet of the advancing keeper.
Half time 0 - 1
Chris Hunter makes a change for the start of the second half. Steven Main is brought on for Robert Morrice.
In the first action of the half the home side are pressing but Academy are containing them well. The ball broke loose and Gray dashed out to the 18 yard line and cleared the ball away from the advancing Allan Hale.
From that good build up by Academy saw the ball reach Davie Allan down the right touch line and he turned inside his marker and teed the ball up for Stevie Cunningham who drilled his shot low and hard from the front corner of the box to beat Leask at the bottom of his far post.
0 - 2
Academy almost grab another in the very next attack when Davie Allan attempted a tricky little chip-shot but keeper Leask just managed to get finger-tips to it to tip it over his cross-bar.
Fraserburgh make another change in an attempt to get back into the game. Graham Johnston is replaced by Russell McBride with 57 minutes on the clock.
With just over an hour gone Academy score again to the delight of the traveling support. Ross Allan scorched down the left touch line and he was tripped by Bryan Hay who was booked for the challenge. Mackay chipped the free kick deep into the area and Michael Steven rose and powered a downward header off the back post. Macadie reacted to the re-bound and from 15 yards out he picked his spot and did well to keep the ball down steering a well-judged shot into the corner of the net.
0 - 3
On 70 minutes Cooper fired in a dangerous cross from the right but a powerful header by Michael Steven cleared the danger.
Weir came on for Macadie and within seconds he ran past Hay onto a long bouncing ball and his well flighted cross beyond the back post was steered into the goal mouth by Cunningham but keeper Leask scrambled it away.
Leask was in the action again seconds later when he made a fine block as Cunningham raced in on goal.
At the other end Gray dived to his right and saved a Willie West header, and he then dashed to his 18 yard line and caught a long ball.
In the last minute of the game Gray was denied what would have been a well deserved clean sheet when referee Spence penalised a sliding tackle by substitute Shaun Sinclair on Allan Hale, and Dean Cowie converted from the spot-kick for a consolation goal for the home side.
1 - 3
The late afternoon sun and floodlights illuminated a shinning performance by Academy as proceedings were brought to a halt with the final whistle.
Full Time 1 - 3
The 3 points today lifts Academy up one place into 9th place in the table, and we now look forward to the visit from high-flying league title challengers Forres next weekend.
