Match Report

Academy's away-day blues returned with a vengeance as they suffered a first-ever defeat to Strathspey Thistle, going down 3-2 at Seafield Park on Wednesday night. The Scorries never really recovered from conceding two goals in the opening 10 minutes and they ended up a man short after Andrew Macleod was sent off for the second time in his last two outings.

After beating Huntly 4-1 at Christie Park on Saturday, Academy had high hopes of achieving back-to-back away wins for the first time since the autumn of 2009.

However, it was the Grantown Jags who made the breakthrough after three minutes when Jason Hill raced down the right and Terry Swinton was there to meet his cutback. Swinton's shot appeared to come off his shin before bouncing over Alan Bokas and into the net.

Swinton added his second of the night after 10 minutes with a thunderous shot from all of 25 yards.

Academy reduced the deficit 12 minutes later when Craig Shearer found the net with a glancing header after a corner from Richard Macadie.

But the home side restored their two-goal advantage on the half-hour mark with a brilliant overhead kick by Polish striker Mateusz Bobrowski.

Half Time 3 - 1

Macadie got Academy's second with nine minutes remaining when he slotted the ball home after a David Allan shot had been diverted onto a post.

Macleod was red-carded in the closing stages and, just as in the Nairn County match a fortnight earlier, it looked like a harsh decision. He clashed with Bobrowski on the halfway line and play was pulled back after the intervention of the near-side assistant referee, with Macleod being penalised for an alleged stamping motion against his opponent.

Strathspey keeper Willie Ridgers had earlier made a spectacular save to deny Allan, and Gary Weir had seen a scissors-kick come off the face of the crossbar, but the home side had done enough to record only their second win of the campaign.
