Match Report

Academy make their first ever trip to the League new boys Formartine today. North Lodge Park is in great nick and this will be a tough game with both teams fighting for league position. Shaun Sinclair and Alex Lamb are suspended following their red cards last week. Bryan Mckiddie is still out with a shoulder injury and Stewart Ross, Ross Allan and Gary Manson all have prior commitments that rules them out of selection. Murry Coghill and Christopher Taylor make guest appearances, and Tichie Hughes fills the other out-field spot on the bench.

Just kicked off so lets hope the boys can put in a good performance and bag all 3 points.

In 3 minutes Academy open the scoring. Formartine pressure Wick with 2 corners on the spin but Shearer manages to clear the ball up the right flank to David Allan. He ran to the corner flag and pulled it back across goal for Richard Macadie. His shot looked to be going wide but it clipped off James Sievewright and flew into the net.

0 - 1

15 minutes played and Formartine are starting to control the game, keeping Academy pinned in their own half. Richard Singer is booked for a challenge through the back of David Allan that resulted in a bit of a melee, but referee Shaw handled it well.

19 minutes in and Formartine win a free kick 19 yards from goal. Richie Singer took it and it looked for all the world a goal but Bokas went airborne and made a fantastic finger tip save to tip it for a corner.

United level the scores in the 30th minute. After sustained pressure they win a corner on the right. Stuart McKay fired it into the box and it got a flick on to Kenny Coull and his shot come cross nestled in the top corner of the net.

1 - 1

Kenny Coull grabs his second goal in as many minutes to but Formartine in front. A long ball from the middle of the park found Coull and he fired home on the volley from 10 yards out.

2 -1

5 minutes before the break Academy go within inches of levelling the scores. David Allan cut inside the box from the left and squared to Weir and his shot looked to be heading for the bottom corner of the net but it shaved the outside of the post.

Half Time 2 - 1

Academy have started the second half a lot brighter and in the first 15 minutes since the break have had a few good chances.

Macadie has had the ball in the net but the goal was chalked off for a foul. David Allan and Weir also combined well resulting in a Weir shot that went straight to the keeper Stewart Gray.

Minutes later Weir almost levelled the scores. Mackay played him in but the young strikers shot was cleared off the Formartine line. Academy have to be careful though as United look to be dangerous on the break.

Academy have had a good spell of pressure but Formartiine regain their 2 goal advantage. A ball into the box was cleared for a corner by Andrew MacLeod. From the corner the ball dropped to Mark Simpson who was unmarked on the edge of the box and he steered a right foot shot into the roof of the Academy net.

3 - 1

With 15 minutes left both sides have made a change. Davie Cowie has come on for Martin Gunn for the Scorries, and United have replaced Robert Maitland with Pat Vigures.

Formartine almost increase their lead with 7 minutes left. Barrie Sommers directed a powerful header on target but Grant Campbell cleared it off the line.

Minutes later Marc Young missed a sitter for Formartine. Stuart Cumming whipped the ball in and Young screamed in at the back post but shot wide from 4 yards out with an empty net beckoning.
