Match Report

Academy won their 5th consecutive league game tonight beating local rivals Brora Rangers by 2-1. This gives the Scorries a points total of 33, one point more than last years total, with 7 league games still left to play.

Academy started the game playing up the Harmsworth slope and had the first half-chance of the game in the 4th minute. Weir picked the ball up wide on the right side of field, cut inside the Brora defence and flashed a shot wide of target.

The first clean chance came 3 minutes later. Macadie slid the ball into the path of Shearer 15 yards from goal, he controlled the ball and fired a good shot on target but keeper Matt Curtis got down to his left and made the save.

The Scorries threatened again in the 23rd minute when Weir picked the ball up in the middle of the Brora box. He took a touch too much on the ball though and was closed down by Muir Morton. He did get a shot off but scuffed the ball wide of target.

Brora went straight back down-field and Christie whipped in a dangerous cross. Innes managed to get his head to the ball but couldn't direct it on target and it went over the cross-bar.

Academy almost took the lead minutes later when the ball was crossed in from the right wing. Weir took it on his chest and fired towards goal but Curtis got down to get a hand to the ball, pushing it off the base of his right hand post and out for a corner.

Academy opened the scoring on the 35th minute. Manson fed McKiddie up the wing. He squared the ball across the 16 yard line where Shearer smacked it with his right foot on the half-volley and it flew past keeper Curtis.

Half - time 1 - 0

Neither team created much at the opening of the second half and it was 16 minutes in before either goal was threatened. McKiddie drove at the Brora defence and got a shot on target that keeper Curtis tipped over the top of the bar. Macadie took the corner and Sheerer got his head to it but Curtis was on-hand to make a safe catch under pressure from Weir.

It took 69 minutes before there was another shot on target. MacKenzie cut in-field from the right hand wing and get a shot on target from the corner of the penalty box but keeper Curtis got down well at his left hand post to make a good save.

Brora levelled the game 2 minutes later. A defensive clearance saw the ball punted towards that Academy penalty area. Substitute Jamie McKay chased it down and More came rushing off his line in an attempt to get to the ball first. However he misjudged it and McKie got there before him, took a touch and slotted home from an acute angle.

1 - 1

Macadie was taken off in the 78th minute after a tackle from Scott Begg. who was booked for the challange. He was replaced with Joe Steven.

With a minute left to play Academy snatched the 3 points. A corner was swung into the box and Cunningham directed it on target. The ball was half-cleared resulting in a stramash in the box where the ball went ping-pong before substitute David Allan connected with it and hammed it towards target. The ball looked to have taken a flick off a defender, but bulged the back of the net and Allan was engulfed by his team-mates as he claimed the goal.
