In this fixture last season Academy notched up their 10th consecutive win beating the Locos 3 - 1. With the Scorries and the Locos currently scrapping for league positions this is expected to be a very tough game.
Just kicked off at Harlaw Park. It's clear blue skys in Inverurie and the pitch is in great shape. Gary Weir starts today's game and Sam Mackay is seemingly sporting a new "Theo Walcott" hair cut.
Academy start the game playing up the Harlaw Park slope and in the first 15 minutes of an evenly contested game have had the better of the chances. David Allan has twice worked himself into good shooting positions firing one effort just wide of the left hand post and another over the cross-bar.
Neil Gauld has had the only Inverurie attempt of any note thus far with 17 minutes played when he pulled a dangerous shot across the face of goal.
10 minutes to half time and it's still 0-0 in what is still an even encounter. Macadie and Weir have had a good first half and both look as if they may have a goal in them.
Half time 0 - 0
Locos make a change at half time with Jack Strachan coming on for Brian Neill.
Locos have started the second half the brighter of the two teams and have had a couple of half chances that have both been put over the over the bar.
In the 52nd minute Academy win a free kick 20 yards from goal but Stewart Ross hammered it into the defensive wall and Inverurie cleared the danger.
2 minutes later Stewart Ross played a ball out of defence to David Allan in the middle of the field. He pushed it wide to Richard Macadie at the edge of the Locos box and Macadie cut inside and hit a superb left foot curling shot into the top right hand corner of the net.
0 - 1
With 15 minutes to go it's still evenly poised. Macadie has had a half volley that flashed wide of target. Hopefully the boys can keep it tight and see this through.
10 minutes left and it's bubbling up. David Allan bursts into the Locos box and goes one-on-one with keeper Reid but he shoots straight at him and Reid makes the block. Reid then denied Macadie again from a corner kick.
Stewart Ross and Jamie Michie go into the referees book as every ball is being fought for in the closing stages.
With 4 minutes left Academy make their first change of the game, Stevie Cunningham is taken on for Gary Weir.
Chances are still coming for Academy Manson is release into the Locos box but shoots wide.
Locos almost square the scores but for a great save from Bokas. Shearer had the ball taken from him on the half way line and it was punted forward to Jamie Michie. He ran to the edge of the box but Bokas came and met him and made a great block before smothering the ball.
Locos are now throwing all they have at Academy, but it's the Scorries that keep making the chances. Manson curling an attempt from the edge of the box just over the top of goal.
It's ding-dong end to end stuff and Andy Reid tips a Macadie shot over the cross-bar for a corner-kick. The corner is cleared but Stewart Ross floats it back into the mix and David Allan heads just over the top.
Locos substitute Jack Strachan almost turned hero for the home side when the was released through the Academy back line but Bokas yet again came out to make another great block.
Referee Pirie plays almost 5 minutes of extra time and although David Allan was booked in the dying stages the Scorries hold on for a tremendous win.
Full Time 0 - 1
The win today gets us within a point of Inverurie but Formartime won again today beating Fort William 4- 1 and they are hot on our heels, level with us on 47 points but for goal difference.
