A cold frosty day in Deveronvale and the pitch has areas covered in frost. Referee Watt has however deemed it as playable, so the game goes ahead. Academy has Stewart Ross, Alex Lamb and Nigel MacKenzie all missing , but Don MacMillan is back between the sticks after missing last weekend with an ankle injury. Gary Farquhar and Stevie Cunningham are in the starting line-up and new signing David Allan takes a place on the bench. Deveronvale scored 10 unanswered goals against Fort William last weekend, so are in great form.
Academy make a good start to the game and in the 7th minute MacMillan sends a great kick up-field for Macadie who picks the ball up on the left hand corner of the 18 yard box. He fires a right foot shot at goal that keeper Blanchard managed to touch away for a corner kick.
Just after the 14 hour Weir played in Macadie who had a first-time shot at goal from 18 yards out but Blanchard did really well to reach and grab the ball under his cross-bar.
Academy have had the better scoring chances and very nearly took the lead in the 18th minute. Weir again played Macadie into the box and he went one-on-one with Blanchard. The keeper came to close down Macadie and got a hand to his right foot shot to take the sting out of it. The ball trickled towards the line but defender Paul Munro tracked back and cleared the ball off the line.
2 minutes later and Deveronvale hit with a sucker-punch. Graeme Watt crossed the ball into the box where Gary Clark timed his run to perfection and he hammered home past a wrong-footed MacMillan from 14 yards.

Despite going a goal down Academy are still playing the better football and almost square the scores on 29 minutes. Weir dribbled past two Vale defenders before delivering a defence splitting pass into the box for Macadie. Keeper Blanchard came to meet him and Macadie went round him and fired goal-wards from 12 yards. It looked a certain goal but Mark Cowie appeared from no-where and booted the ball off the line.
5 minutes after the re-start the Vale double their lead. Academy failed to clear a ball into the box and it fell to Gary Clark who lobbed it back into the mix. The ball is half-cleared again and came back out to Robbie Duncanson who had a shot that was blocked. The re-bound fell nicely to Mark Chisholm and from 12 yards out he rifled a low shot into the left hand corner of the net.

Academy haven't given the game up and get another half-chance. Cowie did well up the wing before sending in a dangerous low cross to the Vale box. Macadie managed to get his foot to the ball but a Vale defender got his leg in to block the shot.
71 minutes of the half gone and Vale make their second substitution with Robbie Duncanson coming off for Gary McGowan.
With 74 minutes on the clock the Vale keeper Blanachard again denies Macadie a goal as he flung himself at a shot that was heading for the top left hand corner and finger-tipped it over the bar.
With 15 minutes of the game left David Allan gets his Academy debut coming on for Gary Farquhar.
With 8 minutes left Academy had a glorious chance to get right back into the game. Macadie broke clear and sent Cowie into the box. With only the keeper to beat he smacked his shot off the outside of his boot and it flew wide of target from only 12 yards out.
Graeme Watt is unlucky not to score in the 85th minute as he show some great skill but his 20 yard curling shot smacks off the under-side of the cross bar and MacMillan collects.
With only a few minutes left more bad news for Academy as Gunn goes down from a tackle by Gary McGowan and is stretchered off in some pain with what looks like an injured ankle.
Referee Watt blows for full time in a game that Academy had a cart-load of scoring chances but unfortunately couldn't make any of them count.
The win for Vale puts them a point clear of Inverurie at the top of the league, but the Locos have 2 games in hand.
