Academy headed down the road to face derby rivals Brora in the second round of the Pat Munro North if Scotland Cup, but a clinical Brora side won out with a convincing 6-0 win.

The first goal came in the 9th minute. A Jordan Macrae shot from outside the box took a wicked deflection off Ross Allan leaving Sean McCarthy rooted to the spot.

Academy battled hard for the remainder of the first half and although they didn’t really threaten the Brora goal the feeling was if they could hold on to half time they were still in the game. Unfortunately that wasn’t to be. Paul Brindle went off injured just before the break and he was replaced by Brora’s summer signing Bjorn Wagennar. With his first touch of the ball he fired home a great free-kick to put the home side in for their cup of tea with a two goal advantage.

Half Time – Brora Rangers 2 – Wick Academy 0

Brora put the game to bed on the hour mark. Mark Nicolson steamed into the box unmarked and powered home with a close-range header from a corner on the right.

The fourth came shortly afterwards when Jordan Macrae sent a low cross into the box and in an attempt to clear it Alan Farquhar bundled the ball into his own net to an unfortunate own goal.

Substitute Scott Davidson put the Cattachs nap when he stabbed home from 4 yards out with Academy failing to clear their lines.

With 5 minutes left the final goal saw Academy again fail to clear the ball out of defence and Collin Williamson poked it home.

Academy nearly got a consolation goal back in the final minute but Joe Malin was on hand to pull off a great save from an Alan Farquhar header.
