Academy travelled to Fraserburgh for the opening league game of the season. First half goals from Sean Butcher and Scott Barbour had the Broch two goals to the good at the half time break. Four minutes into the second half Aidan Combe put the game beyond any doubt. Butcher and Barbour then bagged their second goals of the match to put the icing on the cake for the home side.

Fraserburgh started the game at a really fast tempo and Combe fire a warning shot over the Academy crossbar within the first minute of play.

Fraserburgh opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Greg Buchan did well up the right flank firing in a great cross. Sean Butcher and Sean McCarthy both rose for the ball, with Butcher getting his head to it first to nod home.

Academy’s first chance came from a free kick which Sam Mackay riffled straight at keeper Paul Leask. He couldn’t collect cleanly first time around but safely mopped up at the second attempt.

Fraserburgh broke up-field through Aidan Combe who fed it onto Scott Barbour. McCarthy got a got a foot on his shot, but the ball looped up over him and rolled into the corner of the net.

Four minutes after the second half restart Fraserburgh went three up. Aidan Combe picked the ball up on the left and ran unchallenged across the front of the penalty area before firing a great right foot shot past the diving McCarthy and into the left hand side of his net.

Just before the hour Butcher grabbed his second goal of the match as he swept the ball into the net from 6 yards out from an Owen Cairns cross from the right.

The home side went nap with four minutes left to play. Barbour this time bagging his second of the game as he got a run on the Wick defence and from a tight angle fired a well taken low drive past McCarthy.
